Well my Son & the young fellow that has lived with us for a couple of years now were drawn for cow Moose down at the farm. There are at least 5 cows living on our pasture land and there are 2 in a 1/4 we have sown to hay. I believe this should be over by noon of the opening day  .
I was drawn as well for antlerless Muley but not real happy as guide stated every was same as last year so I put in for the zone with add a Buck and was told this morning that they have dropped the add a buck program. I talked to a CO and advised him that I was not very impressed with the whole program now I have to travel 3 hours to shoot antlerless is not much of a challenge. Oh well we try muzzle loaders again and maybe just head shots 8)

Blessings,
Dan

A couple of cow moose in the family should make for fine meals for the coming year. Antlerless deer is mighty fine fare as well, Dan. Too bad about the change in regulations; I hate it when they do that to me.

I find out tonite at midnight. Should be drawn for bull moose and easily get my cow elk draw. We should have a min. of 2 bull tags at moose camp this year. Hopefully couple guys that are "the wildcards " get drawn. Last year we had 4 in our group. Main reason I did the cow elk draw was to have meat for our hunting group if we only get 2 bull moose tags.

Mulie buck I just "999" my draw for this season...never seen a decent mulie buck in the WMU's I hunt and after a hard winter this past year, I passed to hold out for next year.

Trophy Full-curl bighorn I "999" as I hurt my knee in June...might need surgery. I am a priority 13 now for next year. Better heal up and if surgery do a strong recovery, so I can finally get the "coveted tag".

Next week start getting my loads made up for my 300WM with 180gr AB's, my 270WSM with 140gr for my new-to-me Sako m75ss 270WSM I bought in December. Good thing I have a great load already for my Tikka's in the same caliber for a good starting point. Should get more velocity in the Sako as I can seat the bullet out further than the T3.

Probably use my 338-06AI with 225gr AB reloads for my cow elk. A bit over the top compared the several elk I have taken with my 270WSM but I still have never really hunted hard with this rifle yet. My 300WM is my "Traditional " Moose camp rifle so that leaves the Ackley for cow elk.

Its like Christmas Eve right now!!! lol

Good luck and SAFE / Successful hunting everyone !!

Mighty Peace,

It sounds as if you may do every bit as well as last year. Best of luck tomorrow.

Mighty Peace let us know how the draw goes for you :).
I know I shouldn't bag but I was looking forward to a great Muley Buck hunt and if I would have know the change I would put in for a either sex tag in a couple of different zones:)!!
Oh well still get regular Elk tag this year Bull, Cow or Calf that is great!!
Other good news my God son is coming home him & his wife are moving back from Hinton & he asked me to go on the regular Moose season hunt. So I will get more than my share have hunting enjoyment this coming fall:). Hope I will get to use the 280AI that would top it off:)!!!

Blessings,
Dan

I'll no my fate here in an hour , hopefully for a couple draws.

Saskboy, it appears you lost your extra mule buck tag cause sask is using the ostrich approach to CWD. They have quit with the extra tags and quit testing harvested animals. If you shoot a deer in a CWD zone and want it tested it will be out of your pocket. Not a wise game management plan in my opinion .

Not worth staying up till midnight , I got zilch. Frigging unbelievable that antlered muley is now at least a 4-5 year wait time. Frigging BS. I'm a little sore...

Sorry to hear that Super-7:( that sure seems to be a real long wait for Muley.

Blessings,
Dan

Update for me. Got my bull moose for calling season and cow elk for the mid season!

Our group overall has 4 confirmed bull moose tags and 4 cow elk tags. Families hopefully will be well fed again this coming winter !!!

Got to play the draw system, after the cutback in bull moose tags in the WMU we hunt about 6 years. Our moose group should have 2 tags each year between the original 6 of us and the other 3-4 guys are wildcards each year. Since myself and one of the other main members got drawn this year, we "999" our draws to up the priority for the 2014 & 2015 season and then put in for 2016 year we /should/will be drawn again.

Couple guys that had cow elk draw tags last year got drawn again this year. Now I wished I didn't use my priority up on cow elk and applied to up my priority in a 6pt-bull elk WMU. Oh well.

11 weeks from today and we will be mobilizing to Moose Camp !! We may bump an extra week more, will see how the fall weather starts out in September. We ususally leave the sunday prior to the Thanksgiving Long weekend, and come home on the following Saturday. That way we still have the sunday/Monday off for the turkey suppers with the families!!

That sucks super-7. I think its about 4 years for mulie for here. I was drawn a couple years back but never seen anything decent in my WMU of choice.

Saskboy, better luck next year on drawing a buck tag. You look to have a good hunt ahead of you with the opportunity to fill the freezer with, other than Muley meat, though.
Super7, you have my condolences. I love and hate the draw lottery myself. I love it when I get drawn and hate it when I don't but I do understand the need for some process beyond walking out my door and going hunting like my Grandfather did it back before licenses and such.
Mighty Peace, you look to have a busy season ahead of you.
Everyone, enjoy being out in God's great creation and enjoy his bounty. Take care, stay safe, and have fun!

I guess I shouldn't be so grumpy , it used to be a antlered muley every 2 years in the zones I hunt. I ve seen a few bruisers over the past couple seasons that keep me drooling. It's not a totally lost season as my Dad did draw a cow moose in the area of our old farm, this will be a bit of a Nostaglia hunt as he'll be 71. I'm not sure how many more seasons and draws he's got left in him but I treasure each one. Last year was the first year since I was twelve that I never spent one day in the field with Dad. His work schedule , and mine were not in sync we are determined not to let that happen again.

Good luck to you, Super-7. I hope you are able to make more hunts with your dad. I can assure you that we who are older treasure hunts with younger hunters.

Congrats on your anterless moose tags. Is your new project going to be ready for this hunt? There is a chap here who has been in Super A moose for the last 22 years and came up empty we need to implement a new system here in Sask.
I did not have any luck at all this year
Super A elk -not drawn
Alberta Rocky Mountain Bighorn- moved up to 8 points
Utah limited entry elk moved up to 8 points
Arizona Big Game Super Raffle- phone did not ring last night
Anyways Dan farmland moose is some of the best tablefare you can imagine. Enjoy the hunt and all the fun it brings to you.

Thanks STW, I am sorry that you did not get drawn but the one consolation is regular Elk this year is Bull, Cow or Calf for the entire season. I sure hope you get out to get a crack at those critters:).

Blessings,
Dan
