E-Tip grouping question...

dagored154

RL 22 is the powder for the 300 Win Mag.
Let us know how she shoots with the E-Tips. What weight are you shooting?

Jim I agree RL22 and H4831 is the powder of choice, However with the E-tips and their tendency to up the pressures a little I wonder if IMR 7828, rl25 or any of the slower powders night yield some more velocity without spiking pressures.

This is just a guess but let's see. A 180 AB/PT/Hornady etc will generate about 3050 fps with 75-76 grains of H4831 or RL22.

I bet you $$$$ to donuts that you can reach 3050 fps (safely or not) with 4 grains less of rl22/h4831

Lets see.

Good point Pop. RL 25 just might have the edge.

My findings

300 RUM:
180 ETIP 94/RETUMBO REM CASE PRIMER 215M
ACCURACY +2" FPS 3326

300 RUM: 180 ETIP 95/RETUMBO REM CASE PRIMER 215M ACCURACY +2" FPS 3415

7MM REM MAG 150 ETIP 64/RL22 REM 215M +2" 3194 FPS

7MM REM MAG 150 ETIP 65/RL22 REM 215M +2" 3240 FPS

You might wonder why all my groups are listed at +2". Well if the break 2" I do not care if they are 2" or 22" at 100 yards. Both are equally unacceptable.

+1 Pop.
I wouldn't shoot a lode that was 2"+. Unacceptable in my book too.

The aforementioned was my first attempt with the e-tips. Just like everyone else I spiked the pressures (or close to it due to long bearing surfaces) so I did not expect anything great accuracy wise. I will be slowing them down to see improvement....I hope.

I have given up on the E-tip 180 grain 30 caliber in a .300 Win Mag with a BOSS. The groups are like what someone else said, two in sync and the third is way off. accuracy at 200 and 300 is so bad that I have given up. the man shooting with me was shooting accubonds Kimber .325 WSM. At 300 yds he was shooting sub 3/8" groups. that's 300 yds if you didn't hear me. my E-Tips were grouping at 6" at 300 YDS. I am limited in the bullet depth because of the magazine box. I should be able to tune them in with my BOSS and cannot.

I QUIT and I bought a box of 180 gr accubonds.

Sorry to hear that you couldn't get the E-Tip to shoot.

The AccuBond is an excellent bullet and should do well for you.
If you are shooting 180 gr, work up to 75.0 grs RL 22 in your 300 Win Mag.
It should shoot well for you.

Have you tried 78-80gr of H1000 with the 180gr Etip. It will not be screaming fast, but it is very consistant in my rifle. 1 1/4" 300yrd groups are possible. what i found interesting, the 300yrd groups where the same as the 100yrd and 200yd groups. little triangles

You won't be disappointed with the performance of the AB. They will work for whatever you will want to hunt.

thanks for the reply. Sorry I sounded a little frustrated. last night I loaded two loads with Reloder 22. 73.5 and 75.5 based on recommendation from this site. 75.5 was noted as the most accurate. so I will give it a try. The E-Tip is a good concept and works well at 100 YDS. the partitions and hopefully the Accubonds work well at 100 200 and 300. something the E-tip would not do for me. I will find out tonight if it isn't too windy, we are expecting storms in PA at 1600 hours.
