Thinking on trying some etips and was wondering what load data to use for a starting point and max? Thought I remember hearing middle of the road with data from Nosler book (partitions and accubonds) was considered max, can anyone confrim this? Survey says, little or lots of jump?

Bill

Mid-range load is to be considered maximum charge. The jump to the lands is similar to that with other monolithic bullets. However, most people, myself included, find that 0.100 inch jump gives the best accuracy.

Bill

It is really important to start at the starting load and work up to the mid range as your max. The E-Tips have a long bearing surface and pressures spike fast.
Are you working with the 300 WM?

Negitive, 8mm mag. Just ordered 50 at www.precisionreloading.com

I found best accuracy around .100 from the lands back when I had my 30-06 as well and also stopped at a mid level load as well like Nosler recommends.

.030" off the lands in my 243. About .035" in my 300 win mag. Has shown best accuracy with Etips for me.

Really good advise given. Now the picture show.

Same 90 gr. E-Tip from water jugs at 300 yards from the same rifle. Great performance!!

That is some great performance David. That 6mm Rem is a killer for sure. Really makes that little 6mm seem a lot bigger. Plus, as you showed us, the penetration is excellent!

Good luck with the load work Bill. That big 8mm should really blaze those ET's pretty quick! Scotty

Bill,

Your 8mm RM with the 180 gr E-Tip is going to be a flat liner for sure.

Thanks Scotty. I'm thinking 3200ish should come easy and I'm still kicking the 200 AccuBond around for grins.

Can't see it any other way. If I was smart, which I'm not I would have ordered all the stuff I
needed at one time. Currently waiting on bases and bullets.

Scotty maybe we should start a "if I were smart" club. I'm guessing if truth be told we would get lots of members, hell I could sign up many times over, just ask the wife she'll vouch for me.

Bill my wife would make me the President of our new club! Scotty

Here's some target/hunting pics from my rifles I've developed E-tip loads for (click pics for larger view):

Very nice on the E-tips and great photo's. Are the hogs good eating? I have a buddy in CA who talks about cooking one in a pit for a couple days and have the whole neighborhood over for a feast! Thanks for sharing those.

The hogs I shot/butchered were all good eating, but I'm a firm believer that what you do with the animal after the shot effects the quality of the meat. All of the hogs I shot hung in a game cooler (35*) for about 4 days and deer hung for about 6 days.

Does anyone know if Nosler is going to publish any load data for the E-Tip? I have been playing around with 308 loads since last year, using PT and AB load data. This is the first I have heard about maxing in the middle.

Also...does anyone have a developed load for 308 150 gn e-tips that I could experiment with?

And finally, how do I measure to ensure the bullet is .1 off the lands or some other distance?

Thanks in advance!
