Our roe deer season started a month earlier and at the last light a yearling came.
Easy shot, slightly quartering away.
But man, the 122 gr Lehigh with the Creedmoor is brutal when it hits bone!
I guess one shoulder is for the dog.
On the positive side: he did not hear the shot...

Congratulations on a successful start to the early season. Oh, yeah, the dogs have to eat as well. (y)

Thanks!
She (the dog) does.
Nothing goes to waste and she has her own compartment in the freezer

That’s good eating! First venison I had was in Steinbronn. Local games keepers harvest with moral mushroom sauce and spaetzle... wow! Hooked me fast!

Waidmanns Dank! German phrase for that situation.
Oh yeah, they are tasty! I will put some on the grill tomorrow for my girlfriend's birthday.
Hope I can get out the next days and get another one. I have one week off, so it should work.

Days are getting longer.
So I might be able to go out after work the weeks after off-time, too.
We are allowed to shoot roe deer until 90 minutes after sunset. But that's theory. Too dark after 50 minutes...
Red deer might be hunted with a good moon later, pigs anyway.

I like it easy.
This young fellow came with his sister and stood broadside at 50y.
He made it about 5 steps, half of his heart missing.
Unfortunately I did not get the doe, too.
Well. Next time.
Twice out so far, two bucks. It can go on like that!

Congratulations and good job! They look like smallish type deer that should be good eating! I'm jealous as it's a long ways off from hunting season here.

Thanks!
They are small - rarely topping 45 lbs dressed.
And yes, they are very good good eating - we will have backstraps and steaks from the hind leg from the grill tonight.
Seasons are insane. Bucks from April until end of January, females and fawns from September til end of January.
Last year's females April to 15. March, too.
