I have been in eastern Or many times but have never done any varmint hunting over there.
I hear that the sage rats are plentiful as well as the bunnies.
Is there any good rat and bunny thumping on public land?
I live on the Oregon coast and most private land owners won't let anyone hunt. How are the eastern Or land owners attitudes towards hunters?

I have heard that there are plenty of farmers that are begging people to come out, & help them out with thier varmint problems.

Varmints all over. The best thing to do is to call the Fish and Wildlife manager for whichever unit you plan to go to. They will tell you some good public land to hunt varmints on and might know a lot of land owners that need some help. Make sure you're talking with someone that's actually at the unit, they'll be able to help you best.

I sure would like to know where your hearing this info from....Most people around my unit, which is columbia basin, well its 100% private land, unless you know someone and are close friends, or family, you better be real careful where your going...Thats all I got to say. People aren't to friendly around here...Its very very hard to find places to just shoot stuff, most people just dont want you on there land, PERIOD. I've found a few that'll let me coyote hunt, but thats it. Nothing else, nothing more...

Around my area, we dont hardly have any more jack rabbits. My dad said 20 years ago when he moved out here, there was a rabbit under every sagebrush, aint the case any more...There also is no ground squirrels which is really really weird I think. This is the same type terrain down in central oregon and they got them, but we dont  What gives?? We do have a few, and I mean a handfull of rock chucks. I've seen at most around 10-15 in my life around here, and usually there in bad spots...You gotta really know wehre there at, and look real hard to even see them in the first place...Theres really not a whole lot of varmints around here, except for coyotes. I see more of them then anything..

The area where I usually go for ground squirrels is outside La grande. Its a little town called North Powder, theres little sage rats, which are very small ground squirrels, but there everywhere in the alfalfa fields. Once again though, you better know someone and ask for permission. And it might take more then 1 or 2 people to find and ask that'll let you shoot. We've had guys be pretty downright rude when we went and asked to shoot squirrels on there place..

I guess you can always call the F&W and ask for some BLM land advice. Although you wont find any around my area...If you do, its all landlocked by a bunch of A-holes....

I hear that the Fort Rock area has a lot to shoot at but, again I don't know anyone over there.
I do know the big game regs state that most of the land is private and you better have permission to hunt on someone's land even before you apply for the tag

I heard that from a client of mine a while ago. He had just returned from a weekend shooting sage rats on a guy's farm, in central Or. They were overrun with them. They both shot up about 1000rnds in the weekend,& have no idea how many they got. He told me that the other farmers were in the same boat with them. If I see him again, & I remember, I'll try to get some more info for you. I just got back myself from shooting sage rats on my friends property in the tri'cities area.

just got to find public land, Alot of private property owners wont let the guys from Western Oregon on their property

I wonder if it's because of our western Oregon accent. :? :? :?

Its just not you guys from Wetern Oregon, land owners in eastern oregon won't let anybody hunt unless your family or have money
