Easy elk hunt...

Hah! I finally drew a cow elk tag I've sought for years. Late season, in an area not far from home. Should be a piece of cake right? Cow elk, close to home...

Photo taken by my buddy before spending hours tracking elk, farther and farther into the canyons... Never did catch up. Apparently they walk faster than I do. Imagine that. However we did eventually get back to the Jeep, and out of there, and home before 0100... I'm tired. I don't think I'm going to hunt on Saturday.

Those dang elk have a habit of leading hunters astray. Good luck, squeaky snow doesn't help.

Yeah, the mountainsides get steeper as we age and the animals walk faster. When I fish, I notice the rivers are deeper, wider and swifter here in BC. Funny how that works, eh? Guy, glad you got out. I've discovered that we shoot more elk out in the field than we do in our front yards. Looks as if you're going to connect in time. Best of luck to you.

Guy, snowshoes would have helped eliminate some of the exhaustion, a tent would have eliminated that long drive home---and back, if you go back out today. An hour from now you would have filled your tag. Just a thought

But if you dont go back out you can watch the Navy-Army game. Do Marines root for the Navy or the Army ?

NAVY!

Ya, the snow was right on the edge of being deep enough to make snowshoes worthwhile. I had mine along.

Guy, I am jealous hunting late season sometimes gives you an advantage if you can call it that. Elk in my opinion is the smartest big game animal to hunt and even snow doesn't even it out much .
Good luck in knocking down a nice fat cow and filling your deepfreeze, I am sure that you are going to have success (y).
Looking forward to more photos and a great story of success in the future.

Blessings,
Dan

Guy, you need to have your son along, or maybe not. LOL. My son and I elk hunted 3 days from daylight to dark, I was exhausted trying to keep up with a 27 year old. On the 4th day I wanted to just rest, but he was up at 5 AM ready to go, so I convinced him to hunt from the truck or he might be packing me out.

Good luck on your hunt.

There are few easy elk, but once in a while. Keep at it you know where they are.,

Guy we call any easy animal cashing in a coupon. You must have several extremely hard hunts before you deserve to be on the receiving end of a coupon. Keep up the work and you shall find one!! I sure would like an elk steak for Christmas!!

Amen to these two statements. Easy and elk just don't seem like they belong together

Bill has told me about elk that hang out near roads but I can never seem to find them. My elk are always found at the top of the mountain, and usually over the other danged side! I did kill my Spiker this Fall right on the horse trail. Thanked God for that.

I believe that statistics show, that the average elk hunter kills an elk every 7 years. No elk tag is a guarenteed, they can be easy, but most of the time they come hard. It's a fantastic sport, it builds character.

Amen to that!

Ya'll understand I was being kinda facetious calling it "easy" right?

If not, take another look at the balmy conditions of my hunt...

I'll get back out there, spend another couple of days in the hills. Lower this time I think. Sadly, some things have gotten in the way of this elk hunt. Phooey. But... Tag is still good for a bit longer.

We will see.

Hey no time like the present will be waiting for more spectacular pics of a hunt and hopefully a cow elk with the air let out if her!

Guy you are lucky. I wish I lived where I could do another Big Game hunt.
Now any Marine know if pain is good, extreme pain is even better.
Go get them Semper Fi. I'm pulling for you
