Why'd you have to go and post those pics of the elk. I was just getting to where I wasn't thinking of elk season :p

What? How can you do that? LOL

I never stop thinking about elk season. My apps are in for Wyoming and I am looking at Oregon and Washington regs.

This is top secret info. Don,t tell anyone. Oak creek has some big bucks as well as elk. Ha,Ha

Well in the first one I would be using my 338 WM with a 225 AB. Topped with a 3.5-10x40 B&C. Aim a pit up wind and let him have it. I would try to break the close shoulder and exit the far ribs. Would really love the sitting position, if he doesn't know I'm there I should be able to get my shooting sticks up and get settled.

The second shot I would have to wait for a better one. If I knew I was hunting close timber I would be shooting my 375R loaded with a 260 AB. Even as close as he is, I would really prefer a more clear shot.

Can I use my Ruger #1 in 458 Lott? If so the tree is not a problem.... J/K!

#1. Either from sticks or a sitting position. My .35 Whelen and the 225 g. Barnes TSX. Liver in the pan.

#2 Not sure if I'd take the shot or not. Rifle would still be my .35 Whelen and 225 gr. TSX though. I know if I wait too long, he'll take off into that cover behind him so it's a snap decision as to whether I'd shoot or not. Tough fairly heavy bullet and skimpy twigs. Methinks I'd probably try to thead the bullet though one of the openings in the twigs. Probably what would make up my mind mor than anything else would be is this a do it myself hunt or is it a hunt where I have $5,000 tied up with an outfitter and maybe a long ride into the wilderness? Doing it mysley would be a 50/50 type thing. Paying that much for the hunt, I'm pretty sure I'd take the shot.
