Well, I just went online and bought my Oregon Elk Tag for this year. Kinda stung a little at 500.00, but heck, it will be worth it to hunt with Brian and Bill. Plus, just me being in elk country makes me sleep a little better. Getting closer to the hunt. Rifles are shooting pretty well, gear will get laid out shortly for inventory and prep. I graduate the GySgt's Course on the 14th of Oct and then take off for Oregon a little less than 10 days after. Getting pretty stoked. Might get a chance to hunt with Joel and his crew on the return trip in Minn as well. Shaping up to be a sweet year. Scotty

Congratulations.
Good luck on your hunt
What rifles you plan on taking?

Randy

Randy, I am pretty sure I am taking my 338WM and 35 Whelen along for me. I am also dragging along a 7WSM for Brian to have as a backup to his 300RUM, should he want something lighter to hump around other than his Sendero. Since we are driving out there, and may get to hunt Minnesota on the way back for some deer, I am thinking I might throw my 45-70 into the truck as well. Can't never have enough rifles, right? Scotty

We are doing the drive. Taking our time and going to stop and visit some hunting mates along the way. Going to take it easy and enjoy the drive. I've done the NC to ID drive fast and furiously a few times and would rather take our time. Scotty

That's going to be a long drive, make sure you smack a big bull with those 250's in your Whelen and take lots of photo's :)

That's just great! Here you go adding more rifles to the mix! Guess my 45-70 is going along with the 243AI. Scotty is in for a treat since he has never rode with me more than an hour. Once we are a couple hours in the ride and I'm tweaking on caffeine

Hey Scotty, enjoy yourself and remember lots of photos.
I hope that you knock down a good one with the 35 just to keep us old guys happy

Blessings,
Dan

I will do my best fellas. Really looking forward to this trip with Brian and hunting with Bill. Should keep me sane through the long winter! The 35 Whelen will be on point! Scotty

Good luck scotty, may the elk gods treat ya good. Far as I know the wolfs are not killing the elk in oregon like they are in Idaho. Should be good for you.

Sounds like a great time to be had. Run a cable with padlock through all your rifles and around your seats to discourage thiefs.

Corey

Good luck Scotty on your hunt. Don't forget that 264 WM sir!

Good idea previous. Put your make, model, serial number on a piece of paper of everything you are taking and put it in your wallet. That way you have it should you need it...... Always have to be cautious!
David

OMG Scotty. That is a freakin long drive. Be careful and don't push it.
Hey who are the guys you are mentioning. Are they board members here?

Get a big Elk man!
Steve

What a situation when there is the threat of theft from your vehicle. I assume it is still against the law to thoroughly thrash thieves if you should catch them. Perhaps a bit of MC justice?

Scotty,
There's nothing like getting away to hunt. We wait all year for this once a year event, now it's here.
Glad to see your hunting with friends, makes for new memories and a lot of laughs. I hope you guys really get into the Elk. Doesn't matter what rifle you use, Just get an Elk. Besides that any one of the rifles mentioned will do the job.

Don

Best of luck on your hunt Scott!

You're really driving coast-to-coast to hunt? That's tough... Then again, you're a Marine! Surprised you're not hiking it...

I now see a truck full of rifles. Its just like when Scotty and me go to the range. We plan on shooting two rifles but we end up with four or five apiece! Official count is six rifles and two pistols  I think we have all North American game covered.
