I am running out of my favorite 180 grain Bitterroot reloads, and need a new recipe.

Would you guys share your favorite reloads with all of us?

I have a 26 inch long stainless 1-8 twist and it will stabilize anything.

I have been impressed with Barnes facotry ammo with 180 Tipped TSX, about 3225 fps from freinds rifle. Noermally not a Barnes fan but this was accurate, high velocity, and the tipped bullet has alot larger HP than the original TSX.

If anyone from North Fork lurks here, Id love to know what you recommend w your bullets.

Bullet performance more important than BC.

Thanks!

My present 300 Wby likes 87 gr. of RL25 with 180 AB. I have used this load on a couple bull elk at 300 yards with good accuracy and killing power. My older 300 liked 80 gr of RL22 in the 180.

Heath and Old man,

Have either of you chronographed your loads?

My old load from 1982 used H4831 which gave me more velocity that IMR.

I have a 0.3095 bore and conventional throat. With winchester fire formed brass (from 300 h and h) I am getting 3340 fps with a 180 grain Bitterroot!!!

Alot newer powders available now.

Thanks.

Nope, I have never checked it with the 7828 load.

I would like to try H4831 in mine.

I am very tempted to put H4895 and H4831 on my cereal in the morning because I like them so much.

My dad always used H-4831 in his. I believe something around 80-81 grains. I also believe that is a couple of grains "over" book max. !!!!!

Using either the 180gn Hornady Interlock flat base, the boat tail or the Nosler AccuBond
80gn RL-19 (over the Alliant max load by one grain)
81.5gn H-4831
82.5gn W-780 (no longer in production, maybe still available)
87gn H-1000

Andrew, have you looked at the 180 ET, there is a poster over hear that does 3200+ with the 180 ET and H1000 I believe. I couldn't tell you what his load is, but he reports excellent accuracy with his load and of course, the speeds are quick.

That's pretty neat stuff with the .3095" barrel with the 1-8 twist. Sounds like it is right outta Bill's recipe for his bullets! Very cool.

A man I have known for many years bought a Rem 700 Classic in 300 Wby probably around 25 years ago and has used H 4831 and the 180 gr Hornady Spire Point flat base. He bags a moose pretty much every year with it, I would use a tougher bullet myself but you can't argue with his results......
