Meat Damage on Deer

I purchased a new 270 WSM for hunting black bear and whitetail.
After a lot of research I have decided to use 140 gr Federal Trophy Bonded Tip for black bear and 150 gr Winchester Ballistic Silver Tips for whitetail. I like the bonded tips for deep penetration, to drive through all the fat that a big boar can carry in the fall.
I like the Winchester Ballistic Silver Tip for whitetail for knocking the grunt tube out of a big Ontario buck.

Some folks like a complete pass through no matter the game but I am a believer of dumping all of the energy inside the animal for a faster kill, IMO
Great topic folks keep up the great work!

The only time I've seen excessive bloodshot or damaged meat on a deer or larger animal was when green horns would use varmint bullets in their big game rifles, or they would use too light of round, like a .223 or .22-250, and the 55gr varmint bullets would explode on the shoulder or shoulder blade. It didn't dispatch the animals quickly at all. They had to be shot several times. By that time, they needed a shovel to clean up what they created.
To me, the .308 cal 150 grainers going 2700-2900 fps are great killers without excessive meat damage. The .308 165-168 grainers going 2500-2800fps.
The .308 180 grainers going 2450-2800fps was the least amount of tissue damage or bloodshot.
The 7mm's 140, 145, 150 grainers going 2600-2900 fps.
The 6.5's 140 grainers going 2300-2850 fps.
The .257 cal 115-120 grainers going 2700-2900 fps.
The .243 cal 100-105 grainers going 2750-2900 fps.

Here's one shot with a .264 Win Mag. Rolling my sleeves to go to work. Do you think 120gr Nosler BT did some damage ?

Yep, smack dab in the middle of the king salmon river. Damn thing rolled down river for a mile or two. Came to rest along a gravel bar we could land on.
