The .308 win being one of my favorite rounds.
I was going to load some 165 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips.
I have a couple of favorite loads with the 168 grain Sierra boat tail match.
The first load is 45 grains of ReL 15 and a match fed210 primer, federal brass.
The second is 41 grain of Norma 202 with the same bullet, primer and brass.
The ReL 15 shoots best in my Model 70 win varmit, the Norma shoots best in my Steyr Tactical rifle.
Just wanted some accuracy load suggestions for 165 grain Ballistic tip.

Thanks..

It sounds like you are on the right track to me.
I have 3 , .308s now, and have bought and sold a few others.
I would certainly give the RL-15 a try.
Never used the N-202 , but if it works with one bullet it will probably work with another.
The one powder that seems to work in every .308 I have tried it in,
is IMR-4064.
I also get real good results with Varget and W-748.
RL-15 seems to be the top choice for lots of shooters. Funny but none of my currant crop of .308s seems to like it real well.
But since you are talking hunting loads, where velocity Becomes a bigger factor than with target shooting, I think RL-15 Varget and IMR-4064 are the 3 I would try first.
My 22 in Kimber breaks 2700 with the IMR-4064,with the 165 grain balistic tip and is generaly better than MOA.

Man I wish I could buy about ten pounds of Rel 15.I have about four left and I wanted to use it for some 60 grain BT .223 loads.I think I will load about 100 match grade .308's and then use the rest for .223.

I haven't work that much on the 165 grainer but I did with 168 grain Nosler Comp and 155 grain Scenar. I have good luck with BLC-2 for the 168 and Varget for the 155. I do have 10 lbs of Reloader 15 on hand to try.

Been thinking on getting myself a .308. Since I load lots and lots of H-4895 for my .223 Bushmaster I am just curious if anyone is using H-4895 with 150's in the .308 and what the results are.

Thanks

Larry

I've found the 165 Ballistic Tip to be as accurate, or nearly as accurate as the Nosler and Sierra match bullets - and it's an excellent performer on deer! My load development was real simple too... Perhaps not a recommended shortcut - but all I did was load everything identical to my 168 grain match loads, and substituted the 165 Nosler Ballistic Tip.

Muzzle velocity was the same, point of impact was the same at 100 yards. Trajectory was very nearly the same and accuracy was very nearly as good. The swap worked out well for me. I generally use Varget for my .308 Win loads.

I have gotten decent accuracy with H4895,IMR 4895,and IMR 3031 in the .308 win. REL 15 and Norma 202 just seems to perform best in my rifles for match loads.

I have a fair amount of H4895.I may use it in the .223 with the 60grain Nosler BT.

Norma 202 excellent wih 155gr or 150gr bullets along with H322.

Varget RL15 IMR 4895 and 4064 is also good.

Even had good results with IMR 3031 with 180gr Nosler Part.

My old match load is IMR 4895 @ 43.6 or IMR 4064 @ 43.5 with Palma Match Brass and RWS 5341 primers with the 168 Sierra MK.

at the present time I am using RL 15 @ 42.0 with 180gr Norma SP and Norma Brass with RWS primers as a hunting load.

4 or 5 years ago they went to Reloader 15 in the match sniper ammo M118LR and 175 Sierra MK

If you have a good .308 ,then try the 45 grains of RL15 and the Sierra 168 grain match bullet.I use it in the Model 70 heavy barrel.I have also bedded the action around the lug and the rear tang.and put a Jewell trigger on it.That gun will shoot about .350 for five shots with that load.

Does anyone happen to know a distributor that has any .308 win brass? I need to buy about a thousand rounds.I came up with 100 this week but that is all I have been able to find. It is very very scarce right now.

i use 43 grains of h4895 behind a 165 AccuBond-cci 200 large rifle primers(federal brass)

atleast i think it was 43, been a while since i loaded them

2750 from my tc encore's 26"tube

Thanks guys. I am either looking at buying a slightly used 20" Ruger M77RL .308 or maybe a 24" T/C Encore in .308.

I have always been a .30-06 fan but having my right lung glued to my chest wall my Dr has told me to think about switching to a .308 for less recoil to my chest. He told me the constant recoil could irritate the bond between the chest wall and my right lung.

Currently I am shooting a .243 without any problems but am thinking I would like to add a .30 caliber to the gun cabinet.

If I could come up with a good load with H-4895 that would simplify things considerablly as that is what I use for all my .223 loads these days. With 55gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips loaded with H-4895 my Bushmaster 16" M4 ORC Carbine thinks it is a relative of a target rifle.

H4895 works well in the .308 as does IMR 3031.I have used both in my M1A National Match rifle with very good results.I believe you will find the recoil more pleasant on the .308 win.I haven't met too many cartridges that I didn't like , but the .308 is my all time favorite.I have four rifles chambered for that round that are freaking amazing.
