So about that whole "No New Remingtons" thing...

I don't know why I even bother trying to fool myself.

I exchange a couple of PMs with a member from another board. He wanted a .25-06, and had a .243 to sacrifice, I had money burning a hole in my pocket. 700 SPS Stainless.

Came with a nice bonus: a set of Redding dies and two boxes of bullets, one Sierra FMJs and one 80gr. TTSX.

Then, another member of the same board mentioned a .300 RSAUM he looked at and decided not to buy. 700 BDL Stainless.

Does have a wart, which I will get around to fixing on my next Brownell's order:

It also came with a nice little bonus:

Nosler Custom ammo, 71 rounds of 200gr. ABs at 2750 fps, and 107 peices of once fired brass.

I figure the ammo and brass is worth at least half, if not more, of what I paid for the rifle.

Sure would be nice if there were more people selling used M70s around here! :evil:

I would think you did well, especially the 300RSAUM. Kinda funny about falling off the wagon. Scotty has sold me on Winchester rifles but I see another 700 in my future.

What can I say, Mike. I like the oddball cartridges, and like them or not, probably nearly all of the 'working' (as opposed to showpieces) customs are built on 700s. Heck of a platform for something else down the road.

That being said,

You can put on a new shroud w/o the J-Lock. While you're at it, you might as well put in a new firing pin/spring for faster lock-up.

Kurt, seems like you got a good score with those rifles. Those SPS's are a good deal for the most part. With some mods they make some great rifles. I know Brian is just about dieing to build another SPS 300RUM and your posts are helping to suppress his appetite at all!
