Hunted hard with my son yesterday, no buck down, but a great day in the local mountains. Saw a golden eagle soar overhead. Found where a bull elk had trashed a tree, getting the velvet off his antlers. Found tracks of what's likely a big buck. Found a cougar track! Only saw one other hunter all day. Only thing that would have made the day better was if we had a buck down.

Planned on hunting again this morning but woke up at 0130 with a crushing sinus headache. Had a miserable time sleeping the rest of the night. At 0400, when I'd planned on getting up, I was such a mess I didn't think I could even drive safely, so bagged the morning hunt. My wife thinks I've contracted some fatal disease, she's almost never seen me pass up a day of hunting.

Coffee, benedryl, and one of her fried egg sandwiches has me feeling considerably better. Suspect I got exposed to something in the field yesterday that triggered the hay fever/sinus problem later.

If I keep improving, maybe the afternoon/evening hunt is a possibility. Can't believe I missed a morning hunt! Yikes! :(

Better than chicken soup, I'll wager. Sorry to hear about the headache. I'm totally sympathetic. However, I'm pleased (as no doubt you are also pleased) that you had time afield yesterday with your son. The golden eagle is a bonus. It is a totem for my hunting partner. Maybe there is something to that, as it guided us to a couple of large bears a few years back, flying low and directing in front of us until we reached the valley where the bears were. Again, a golden eagle has guided us to some excellent game in the mountains. Just discovering tracks and sign can be gratifying for me. Not seeing a ton of other people is a bonus. I'm finding it necessary to get farther back into the mountains because of the extensive exploration for gas throughout this region. However, it is still possible to spend a day without seeing other people. Trust you'll get a hunt in this evening, Guy.

Sinus head aches :x :x
That is the misery of my existence. I take a prescribed nasel spray and a Claratin-D every morning. Still a few times a year get the 1AM head ache & nausea walk to the coffee pot and Excedren. Takes a couple of hours and all is well, except the no sleep. It gets frustrating when your trying to spend time with family outside doing something you all like.

Sorry to hear about the headache Guy. Glad you were able to get out with the boy though. I am sure you two will have a few more days afield though! Looking forward to hearing about your success soon! Scotty

A Golden eagle landed on a piece of sage just uphill from us on this weeks elk hunt. What an impressive bird! I've seen them on a few occasions over the years and it never gets any less thrilling. They are just so well suited to the high harsh places they roam. Imagine the views they must see!

You know I've had a lot of this the last few years. Sometimes it is dehydration cuz I don't take the time I ought to drink, but other times it is just a mystery.

Wouldn't you know my wife always has to point out, "boy, sure seems like being out hunting gives you headaches!" but of course they're never THAT kind of headache :) .

Nalgene bottles are my friends... I keep 'em nearby and make sure to drink X-number of them when on stand. Seems to help, but still... sinus/allergy issues SUCK!
