Not bad, I'd say.

Yeah, I'd call it a day right there! Move it to 3" high at 100 yards and have about a 260 yard zero, and out to 350 you could hold on an elks back.. That makes for a great hunting combo Dan! Great shooting buddy.

If you do your part, Dan, the load will bring home the moose, elk, black bear or whatever you were intending to shoot.

Dan,
Have you tried a Past recoil pad? from my experience, it is effective at tameing a magnum.
Keith

After I was finished shooting I adjusted the scope 2 clicks left & I will be playing with the elevation next time out. I was thinking 2" to 3" high at 100 yards should be just about right  for Elk. Our shots at the Moose are very seldom over a 100 yards but I don't think that I will be adjusting it as there is a lot of animal to shoot at :)

PS. Mike thank you for posting my photograph.

Blessings,
Dan

Keith in the past I never had to use one :) but now that I have lost this weight I may have to look at one for on the bench. When I am out actually hunting I have never felt recoil. I did shoot the Mr. H & H for almost 20 years and sometimes that can stand for Hurt & Hurt

Blessings,
Dan

Hey gerry how is that 35 of yours coming along? The season is just about upon you
Hope that everything is progressing well.
PS. gerry what is the name of that shop in Vanderhoof again please. I still can not find any 35 Whelen brass :( and I would like something else other than Remington if possible.

Blessing,
Dan

Speaking of which, Gerry, how's the hunt for a coastal grizzly going? Have you made any exploratory trips? Though it is a bit warm now, what sort of time schedule are you anticipating?

No grizzly tag for this fall, mine was a spring draw. It has been really hot here too lately, some guys I know went out for goats last week and came up empty lots of goat sign but they were all hunkered down in the shady areas especially north facing timbered cliffs where they are impossible to find. When it cools off they will come out of hiding.

Dan, last I heard it was almost complete, the gunsmith went on a sheep hunt and I'm not sure if he's back yet. Hopefully it will be done soon, I was hoping to go out for a goat on the September long week end will need to take a different gun if I do. The area I have is excellent for late fall hunting so there is still lots of time to go out.

Nosler makes some 35 Whelen brass, although, I have never seen it for sale. Norma or Lapua 30-06 brass would make some nice 35 Whelen cases as well, but I have done okay with annealing the RP brass so far.

Hornady may also be making some 35 Whelen brass, as they are loading for the cartridge now. Not sure. Good luck with your search Dan. What is the issue you are having with the RP brass though? It isn't great, but it does seem to work okay for me.

Again Dan, that load is good to go. I don't see any elk, moose or deer getting away from that one.

Do you still have your 264 Gerry?

Hope you get your Whelen done soon. Are you going to try and run the 200's this year?

Still have the 264 WM I may need to get it out this week and make sure it's still on. This year it will be 200's for the new Whelen. I have about 150 200 gr Hornadys, 100 200 gr Accubonds and 50 200 gr TTSX to wring out.

Good deal, hope that Whelen shoots really well for you..

Glad you still have the 264, that baby screams seems like it is made for the goats! Do you shoot the AB or PT out of that rifle?

Federal makes some Whelen brass but only in loaded ammo in the form of premium ammo with a 225 gr. trophy boned bear claw bullet. Product number is P35WT1. Dunno how good the brass is. It's nickel plated. I found four boxes at a Sportsman"s Warehouse in the clearance bin and snapped them up. In my experience though, Federal brass has always been a bit softer that the others. I've been making brass for two of my Whelens using milsurp 30-06 btass. PS8 Korean 30-06 brass has proven to be quite good in my headspace challenged Ruger M77RS and LC43 in my Remington 700 Classic. I use the Remington brass in my custom Mauser. I've been thinking of converting some Winchester 30-06 brass to the Whelen as it usually will hold a bit more powder but as my load with the Remington brass does just fine, why bother? Like Murphy's second law says, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
I mentioned in another thread that the wife and I drew tags for the Kaibab fo Mule Deer this year. 8) Arizona asks hunters who draw the Kiabab and Arizona strip to voluntarily use ammo with monometal bullets. In order to promote this, they give a coupon to Cabela's for one free box of loaded ammo or one free box of bullets to make your reloads using monometal bullets. he only 225 gr. .35 caliber bullets they showed on the list was the barnes so two boxes of those will be in my mail box shortly. The wife and I will be using a .257 Robt. and a 7x57 and I already have plenty of those bullets.. The .257's are loaded and I just have to do work up for the 7x57. I'll use the .35's for my elk hunt in December. 8)
Dunno what the problem is with the Remington brass is but I've noticed that Winchester brass is usually a bit tougher and will hold a bit more powder. Simple enough to run some through the .35 Whelen sizing die and make some to try.

Scotty, I have a good load with the 130 gr Scirocco but have had some pretty good groups with the 140 gr AB and PT. I think the 140 gr Partition will get the nod, I'm almost out of the Accubonds and want to try them in the new 260 when it arrives.

I have never re-sized brass to fit another caliber but it looks like I am going to have to do something
I know that I have to neck it up it is not that hard to do is it?
Maybe I will get some Nolser in the 06 and give it a try. I never thought of Laupa brass I have heard good things about it as well. Has anyone tried to neck up Laupa brass?
PS. Scotty thanks for the information regarding picking up brass but they will not ship it to Canada from the US

Blessings,
Dan

Not bad, I'd say.

Dan I would hunt all day long with that group and never worry one little bit. If that group won't get it done tightening it up won't help.
