fine tuning the 25/06 :)

Spoke to Winkie at RS Macleod of Tain, Scotland who supplied the rifle & scope mounts nine years ago. He's told me to return the scope and rings with detachable rail to him and he'll replace the rings at once FOC.
Now that's really good service.

That's what you call good CS. Someone who wants you to be their customer for life.

That certainly qualifies as great service. Good job, man.

Yup, - I think it's impressive too & not to be forgotten. So, if ever you're in Northern Scotland hunting,
'Winkie' is Gregor Macleod of RS Macleod & Son......and you can find him at:

He'd be a good contact to help with a firearm problem

Just thought I'd post this pic. of a load I revisited yesterday.
I'd not been over impressed by the MV of the load I had with IMR4831 @ 3025fps so I gave this one a try:
The new test item was Federal 210 Match primers & they made a fair difference.
It's 50.5gn IMR4350 & produced and ave. of 3120fps MV with the 110gn Nosler AB.
ES was 29fps. from my 20" barrel.
The bullet seating depth gave a measurement of 2.875" at the ogive using a comparator.
COAL: 3.400"
It's a five shot group.
Cheers, ET

That does appear to be a good, consistent group. A hundred fps is to the good when looking for a bit more reach, though I doubt that the game you tag with that won't realise the difference.

Great report. Sounds like they want a customer for life.

Sounds like the speed is there. What's your plan?

Well Scotty, first thing is get the scope & rings to Scotland for fixing. The scope rings will be done & back in a few days, but I won't be here for a while by then, so it'll have to wait until I'm home again.
Then, not much for a while until I can get the whole lot re-assembled, zeroed and out on the hills after the deer again.
Might take a little while, but I'm hoping not to miss all of this season because of my commitments!

But, - and here's the sad thing, I have the idea that much of the variation in impact point I've been getting, has been down to my own shooting technique.
On the range I have been behaving differently than in the field, in as much as the way in which I've been holding my rifle for testing the loads.
Moving back to the usual way of holding the fore-end of the rifle firmly has changed the consistency of my impact points. Having said that, I think the Fed.210 Match primers have also made a significant difference.
So, I think I'll probably go with the IMR4350 load.
I can always change back should I need to.
Cheers, ET

Probably bang on right DrMike, but for the occasional long shot, I'm thinking I'd rather have the 110gn AB performing just right. Touch less risky maybe?
