I know this is a rifle page so if archery does not belong I understand.

Tonight was my 4th night hunting with my recurve. I have not touched my compund since April so this year was 100% trad for me. I shot a lot this summer and got some Snuffer broadheads. Last night I had 4 does and 2 fawns at 25 yards but they did not come my way. Tonight I was in my stand 4 minutes and saw a doe and fawn coming. I did not have an arrow nocked or my shooting glove on. All I had time to do was nock an arrow and spin my hat around. The doe stopped at 16 yards and gave me a shot. At the shot I knew it was high but after she could not make it up the steep hill from the creek I knew I was in business. She got her footing and ran about 70 yards. I gave her a few minutes and with a little bit of work was able to find her. The high hit got both lungs but she did not bleed out a lot. To say I was pumped is an understatement. That was the first animal I have ever drawn back on with a recurve and it was great to shoot and not have to worry about peeps and pins. Just pick a spot and let it fly. After 3 years of shooting a trad bow, I am happy I had it with me tonight.

WT! Congrats buddy! I took my first buck with a recurve! I went to compound after I joined the Marines as I don't have the time to devote to the recurve but man, what an accomplishment it is to pin a deer with a recurve! Awesome shooting buddy! Huge Congrats!

WT

Congratulations on your doe. Archery can be tough, doing it with a recure is even tougher.
Way to go!

I love my rifles but get a lot more time in the woods with a bow. I only rifle hunt 5 days a year on average. Bow season gets me in the woods a lot more and during a time when there are less people in the woods.

I am with you as I am a big time bow hunter. I love the "Up close and personal" side of bow hunting and out smarting a big WT buck.

Awesome WT! Recurves are great! I had a Bear Minuteman takedown with which I took 6 deer. Switched to a nice compound and took one more mulie and one 5x5 elk. Severed all 4 tendons in my right rotator in a mountain biking foobar, bow was stolen by the guys remodeling my house and I gave it up.

It is by far the most exciting hunting I ever did. You seem to see more animals (maybe because there aren't so many people in the woods). I really enjoyed mountain biking with my bow. Except for my huffing and puffing, it was pretty quiet going and it didn't seem to spook deer much.

Great job!!!

Congrats. What kind of rig do you have? Snuffers are great broadheads. They leave a hugh hole and lots of blood trail.

Cool deal WT and congratulations. The thought of bow hunting is of great interest cause i love getting animals up close and personal, that's why I goose hunt but the heat that time of year stops me cold from ever trying bow hunting.

Excellent!! Quite a feat there WT. I've always respected a good recurve shooter. I too love the archery experience more so than rifle seasons.

WT,
Congrats on the Doe. She will be good eating this early in the year.

My bow is a black bear riser that has been modified to hold trad limbs. The limbs pull 50 lbs. for arrows, I use carbon express with 100 gr inserts and 125 gr Magnus sniffers. The bow is a little heavy but is quiet and smooth. Sorry for the bad typing, I am on an iPad. Thanks for all the kind words.

Which limbs are you shooting? Those black bear warfs make great shooters; especially if your draw length is in the 28"-30" range.

That is Awesome man!

What a great hunt and story.. Don't you just love it when they decide to show up at the most unoportune time!!

Very VERY cool.

This Trad Dad has been hunting with recurves and longbows since my first deer in 76.

As Ive face the "fun" of getting older the trad bows have been more of a challenge yet challenge is the name of the game.

Still kicking myself for selling it, but last one I shot was with a 1952 Bear Cub longbow. Dont ask me why I sold it....I flat dont know!! Stupidity I suspect!

Not all is a dark cloud though.....my "age inflicted" physical restrictions pointed me at the fairly new to Indiana rifle regulations..and then to the "thought up" 350 JR, so its kind of "a wash". Always loved varminting and the 700 Rem....I can now hunt with one for DEER in Indiana. I would have NEVER guessed that would ever be possible even 5 years back.

My own archery hunts still include my hand made wood arrows and standard two blade heads, both of which I have hunted with and taken deer with for a few decades (seriously, the same arrows). Ive often thought the work put into arrow making was a distant cousin to reloading. Another way to enjoy the sport and put more of "me" into my hunting.

I LOVE seeing a youngster like yourself who understands the draw of traditional archery!!

CONGRATS........big time!
God Bless
