Today was the maiden trip of the Marlin 30-06 XL7 to the range. A little snow a lot of cold but some good results.

To make a long story short with the little shooting we did H4350 was declared a winner. Both loads at 2700 fps.

The 180 AccuBond about .80"

The 180 Hornady SP about .60"

Good job Pop no matter what you said. I looked at your other post that was included. Sorry, but I don't have an answer for that one. Have you tried some different color targets to see if that would help?

Mountain Plains Industries: Makes great heavy stock targets that are on white paper with 1" squared lines on the paper with smaller lighter color outlined 1/4" squares inside of that. The shooting point is a blue outlined diamond with a smaller diamond in the center. The target has space for all of your load information, velocity, the whole works. Great targets, and they make them in different sizes of squares to make it work better for different distances as well as your scope power. Look them up on the internet. They don't cost that much.

Briarbank Targets: Heavy stock white paper with 1? line spacing. Target is a heavy outlined black square with a white center with a black circle going around the inside of the square. Also a very nice target with all the load data locations. They are both 3-whole punched for a three ring binder so it's easy to keep them together after use. You can buy dividers and keep a record of your good stuff for each rifle in it's own little location in your binder. Look those up too Pop.

Good point 6mm!

Fotis, my go to powder for 30-06 was always IMR 4350
180 gr = 55.0 grs
165 gr = 57.0 grs
150 gr = 59.0 grs

POP,

I really have the ocular screwed out on my scopes. I get a lot of comments from the gunsmiths whenever I bring a rifle back after evaluation. It can take some effort to focus at 100 and 200 at times. I simply comment I always carry 30 calibre and 7mm pencils.

Good job Pop,I'm loading 165 noslers with 59 grains H4350 and Ilove the way they shoot. I've loaded up some 150 Hornady for my son with 56 grains IMR 4350 and he likes the way that they shoot. I also like using IMR 4350 in my 7mm Mag.

Noslers Rock!

I tried a couple of IMR 4350 loads but no dice.

Pop, take JD's advice on RE22. I shot a lot of 180's out of my Browning Stainless stalker and RE22 gave me a bit more velocity with better accuracy. I was using Remington cases and a WLRM primer. I can feel for your eye problem. Try and live with the right eye being 20/20 and the left eye being 20/100. My glasses are always leaning towards the left with the weight of the lens. The worst part is surgery can't correct the problem. Add hearing problems from the Military (they didn't issue hearing protection in the 60's, try having your ear about one foot away from a 3" 50) and it makes for a fun time.

POP, here's a couple of loads that worked for me:
180ET Info:
http://noslerreloading.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=9169&highlight=
AVG velocity of the 180ET is 2750fps

180AB Info:
Also, I re-chrono'd my 30-06 180AB load. The first attempt was suspect as my 5 shot avg was 2922FPS. I attribute this to the ammo sitting out on a sunny day while I was chrono'ing another rifle/load. Well today I got more realistic results today, an avg 5 shot velocity of 2823 fps. The load is:
Nosler brass @ 2.48"
GM210M
55.5gn of H414
COL: 3.39"

FWIW, I tried RL-22 and the 180ET and this powder is a very compressed load, even at a COL of 3.39". I had several rounds where the bullet work back out. I don't know if the same hold true for a leaded bullet.

Richard, all I have got to say is keep that vanguard, it is a real shooter. Also, thanks for the info on H414 and the load data. I have some Nosler brass and will try this load in my 06 as soon as I get the stock replaced.

Fotis,

Give RL 22 a try.

JD338

I did with the AccuBond 3" /100 yds

BTW fellas I am pleased with the results. Every time you take a virgin rifle out and find 2 sub moa loads out of 6 or 7 that is good.
Just gotta fine tune them a bit.

POP, I never could get RL-22 to work in any of my last four 30-06 rifles, that is to shoot good groups.

RL22 worked great in a Savage 3006 I had but not in my new on, Tikka. I think it is hit or miss I don't know. It's a great powder when it works.
