I hadn't seen elk for two days and the new 28 was sweet talking me into going to the range. I loaded some break in loads, a progression for 175gr ABLRs and RL33 as well as some pressure loads for the 195gr Berger/RL33 that just came out. I had no load data except for a bullet profile that I added to Q/L for Bergers so I wanted to be cautious. It went pretty well today. The rifle is easy to shoot. Recoil feels like my 257RobertsAI. These groups were shot off a bipod with a rear bag, targets were at 100yds. Nosler book max is 88gr. but my rifle is throated long to utilize it's 3.610" magazine. The 175ABLR rounds were loaded to 3.490" which is .050" off the lands.

I want to run a 175grABLR through some water jugs at 3200FPS! 8)
The next picts are of the 195gr Berger pressure round groups. I loaded a 10 round progression of powder charges, 1 round at each charge weight. I did this since I had no data and didn't want to demill a lot of rounds if I hit pressure early. Looks like I might have several good charge weights to choose from! I couldn't believe the rifle shot a .672" group with 5 rounds each with a different Charge weight. I expected a 2-3" group with most of it vertical.

I'll probably end up with a load pushing the 195gr Berger at close to 3100FPS and the 175gr ABLR will be nudging 3200FPS. I wasn't happy with the S.D.s or E.S.s because they were in the 20s and 30s but I was using virgin brass and once I necksize and reshoot it'll probably drop some. I'll be pushing this rifle out to 1000-1200yds so I'll need the tightest numbers I can get.
I want to put a 195gr Berger through some water jugs at 3100FPS! It should do well because it's sectional density is .345 and every bullet over .300 I've shot has done well on game.

Scott, that is some fine shooting. I would be afraid of shooting the barrel out because I couldn't resist shooting a rifle that shoots that well.

Looking great Scott. It's only going to get better.

The initial loads are definitely proving that the rifle does want to run. A 175 grain ABLR at 3200 fps? That is superb. Now, toss in the obvious accuracy of the 195 grin Berger, and that rifle will produce for you. Excellent and most gratifying results, Scott.

Excellent! Those results on the first time out must be most gratifying.

Thanks guy's. I'm enjoying this rifle very much. It's giving me all the performance I'd hoped for.

Scott

Looking good! Keep up the good work. It will make easier for me once I find a smith that wants to do the work on my M70. (y)

Brian,
You'll be welcome to any data I work up.

Scott

Scotty,
I'm collecting milk jugs right now. I want to run both those bullets through some jugs. I feel good about the ABLR but want to see what the Berger will do at speed as well as at the bottom end. I'm planning some low end loads out of my 7-08 or 7x57 to approximate performance at range.

Scott

Scott that is one sharp looking rifle & the performance is right there as well. Sure hope we get to see what that long range little lady can do in the near future. Those 175gr. look to be what the doctor has ordered... (y)
Thank you for the range report with photos.

Blessings,
Dan
