I took my nephew and his 11 yr old son out this past weekend to hunt turkey. The weather was more like deer hunting, cold temps around 30 degrees with rain, sleet, and wind gust up to 30 mph!
We set up behind the house and called but never heard any responses from the birds. I decided to throw a few yelps periodically just in case we had one cruising through one of the ravines.
I called at 9:30 AM and about 8-10 minutes later in came a Tom from a big ravine. He made eye contact with the Primos B-Mobil strutting decoy, who I refer to as "Tommy Boy", and walked aggressively towards the decoy right past a hen decoy.
This gave us time to get Jerad set up with his 870 youth 20 ga magnum. At 18 yds, Jared send a load of #4 lead Remington Nitro and dumped him on the spot. The Tom has an 8" beard with 3/4" spurs.
Job well done Jerad, Uncle Jim is very proud of you!
