FL Resizing New Brass?

I got my first batch of new Winchester Brass (I am new to reloading). I noticed that the some of the case mouths on this new brass was slightly "dented" inwards. Seems to me that this could affect accuracy (unevenly "scratch" the bullets during bullet seating). My question is this - is Full Length resizing this new brass to fix these "dented" case mouths a good or bad idea? Thanks for any help.

You must full length size all new brass. Then trim all of it to a standard length, usually about .010 - .020" less than SAAMI listed max length (trim length).

Welcome to the forum.
The guys are spot on, always a good idea to run new brass through the sizing die to square up the brass. Consistency is the first step to better accuracy.

It's my opinion that you will change very little about the dimension of the body of virgin brass.
I lube the inside of the case mouth and run the mouth over an expander ball or lyman m die. Thats it....chamfer and load. IT'S AFTER the first firing when the brass is nearly expanded to your chamber dimensions that you want to spend the time trimming and getting your sizing die set to reduce the fired brass as little as possible to match your chamber.
What works for me may not be good enough for others but if your gun is up to it and you have a good load there is no reason virgin brass with this minimal prep can't shoot under moa.

I like to partially size new brass. You should be able to adjust you sizing die up so it only sizes half or less of the case neck. Trim and chamfer, and load away.

I always take my Win brass when it is new and just quickly run it up into my sizing die enough to get it through the expander button and back out. This will round out the case mouth nicely. I do not size the case at all. I then measure them to make sure they are not over the max length and usually they are not so I load and fire them and then on the second loading i trim them to a consistent length.

Neck size, chamfer, deburr, load and fire. New brass is generaly at min specs and FL sizing doesn't do much other than fix neck dents.Rick.

Welcome Sithlord6512. You picked a great forum to learn from. These guys have helped me with a lot of good info

With new brass, I too full length resize, chamfer, deburr & also uniform the flash hole inside the case. Because the case was lubed prior to sizing, I also remove the lube from the outside of the case. And don't ever think you can't stick an unlubed, new case in a sizing die :x because you certainly can, I've done it

Neck sizing works for me and is quick, but if no neck die, I lube then F.L. Either way, next step is to chamfer, deburr, ream flash hole then prime and load.

Thanks for all your great advice. Joining this forum has definitely improved my knowledge level - much more to reloading thent the instrucitons given in my sparkling new reloading Manuals (Nosler Number 6 and Barnes 4).

Just bought those two books. Need to pick up the new Speer, Hodgdon, Hornady, Sierra, and maybe the Accurate manuals. Going to have to clear out another shelf for reloading manuals!
