Most fascinating. I would not have thought of using the 444 as a shotgun. It does alter the trajectory of my thinking.

I have tried all of the loads Doc. It is a most useful all around rifle.

1200 fps with 180 gr 44 mag bullets with unique (jacketted and cast), 44 lead balls at 800 fps, to shotshell use to 355 gr super hard cast at 2155 fps. Everything for the N. American continent. Range is the only factor

And if one is a hunter, that is not a serious deficit.

There are some guys running 420-420 grain hardcast loads in their 444 Marlin's, to around 1800FPS. I can't see the 444 lacking one little bit.

Great article Fotis. Might have to bring the 444 out on the next range trip!

Mine is like new and unfired by me. She is the Classic Microgroove! One of the last rifles I would sell.

She will be going out next trip.

I want to see 300 gr at 2100 fps.

That is a sweet rifle Fotis. I can't see a 300 at 2100 being tough at all and man, I bet it could be zeroed to get 250 out of it too. I need to pump mine up a little but even still, it's a fun lever rifle.

Marlin knows (knew?) how to build a very fine lever action rifle.

I've never messed with the .444, but have always been interested. My big bore Marlins were of .45/70 chambering, and Marlin did well with those.
