Hey gang, just got back from a hunt on Niihau. Its a private island owned by the Robinson family. Myself and two buddies were on a pig eradication hunt. We all know how those pigs are. It was one full day and two half days of hunting those pesty critters. Sorry no pictures of the piggys as it was hunt water holes. Drive up, shoot as many as you could, leave for the next water hole and do the same again and again and again. Then at night go back to the close water holes and shoot the pigs that came to eat the ones that were shot prior. No meat was taken as you get to the island by helicoptor and space is really an issue. We had to leave some food and water back because we were overloaded.
The people there are the nicest people you will ever meet. They also have sheep, aodad and eland there for pay hunts. The herd of eland is about 6000 strong. It was a great hunt for us, not so good for the pigs. My two buddies are good shots and the pigs suffered for that.
There is also some history with December 7th, 1941 and a downed Japanese "zero" that landed there. The chief/pastor of the island is the son of the man and woman who eventually killed the Japanese pilot, even after he was shot three times by the pilot.

Wow!

Absolutely awesome.

I may come up with something else to say in due time. Dang... Congrats!

Russ,

That sounds like an absolutely fabulous hunt. Man, it had to have been excellent to drop that many piggies.

Very nice place Russ, according to the pictures I found on the internet.

I'd like to see it up close and personal one of these days. Who knows? Maybe I'll get the chance someday.

Good for you Russ, that sounds like a fun hunt. I have not been there but another lady who is a close friend of ours has been there and she loved it. I dont remember if April hunted or not, but I remember that she loved the island. Is the island still used to raise cattle Russ ?

A,
Some cattle and sheep. They are thinking about the Eland for free range meat.

The little piglets are pretty hard to hit at a 100 yards and out. They are also hard to hit really close.
