I found a local guy with a 300 WSM. It is a Ruger M77 wood stock and blued barrel that has never been fired. He wants $575 for it. Is this a good deal?

Sounds like a good deal to me. Go for it.

I don't know if I can right now. I was planning on getting a 204. I have an 06 and the .338 so there is no need right now for the 300WSM. I tried to get my dad to go in on it with me but he said he would rather have a 300WM. I really don't know why he is stuck on the 300WM over the 300WSM.

Sounds okay to me, assuming that it is in good condition. I had a .300 WSM, complete with a 3-9-40 Zeiss Conquest scope and liked it a lot. It was very accurate and hard hitting. I gave it to number 2 son for an elk rifle when he moved to Laramie Wyoming.

It is a Hawkeye. The guy won it and it has never been out of the box. When I called him, he said it was a 300. From there I asked him to read what is says on the barrel and he said 300WSM. He has no clue what it is.

The price sounds like a good price. That is a fine cartridge and the Hawkeye is a fine rifle.

I think the 204 is going to win this round. I want something easy to shoot at the range. Again, if my dad would jump on board with me, I would go get it tomorrow after work but he is being a poop head. (I say that with a smile. I love my dad.)

Nice as the .300 WSM is, it pretty much duplicates the capabilities of your .30-06 and your .338 rifles. They're all medium-large game rifles.

That .204 will be a whole different experience! After loading .30 and .338 cal bullets, the itty-bitty 32 grain .20 cal bullets are TINY and it really is a LOT of fun to shoot at the range and for varmints/predators. I tend to laugh a lot when I'm loading for the itty-bitty .204 and even more when I'm shooting it. Tiny amounts of gunpowder. Tiny little bit of recoil. It brings a grin to my face often. I think you'll enjoy - and it will be Very Different from your two existing hunting rifles.

FWIW, Guy

Just ran a dozen or so rounds through my .204 this morning... it does make you grin!

It is a lot of fun but mine gets no use.... Hence the sale

I am not sure if Ruger chambered very many WSM's in their Hawkeyes. That was about the time Ruger started the Hawkeye and discontinued chambering WSMs cause of the Jamison deal. Either way, with a 338 and 30-06 your pretty well covered.

The price is very right for a new rifle though. Sounds like a nice package. Although a 204 Ruger would be a lot of fun too.
