Well, sort of...

Have been breaking down a bunch of .300 Win mag ammo I loaded quite a while back (one of the boxes is labeled 1995). Will be getting the brass shipped off to forum member Excaliber.

In doing so, I've pulled a whole bunch of 165 grain Ballistic Tips (the old, more fragile ones) and 40, 180 gr Partitions. The bullets actually are coming out in good shape, nice. (y)

Have quite a pile of IMR4350 building up too - thankfully I clearly labeled all my handloads even then, and I know that IMR 4350 was mostly what I used during my .300 Win mag days anyway.

So yeah, I'm getting "free" bullets! Okay, I paid for them 20 years ago and they've been sitting around waiting to be fired ever since. Should work out great in my .30-06...

Guy

Nice! Recouping some old bullets ain't a half bad idea Guy..

I'd imagine those old PT's will shoot real well in your 30-06. What load did you ever come up with for the CDL and 180 PT's?

Scotty - I lost steam on the .30-06/180 project.

Doc prohibited me from rifle shooting when I had surgery, still not supposed to shoot a rifle. Phooey. Hopefully by the end of summer...

And I was so doggone happy with the way the 165's were shooting anyway, that I just didn't do much with the 180's. Hunter looked real good, as did my old stand-by H4350, but I didn't get serious about it. Both were roughly MOA.

Got ya. Sorry about that, forgot about the Doc's orders on you.

I'd say you have a dynamite load with your 165's as well. Hard to go too wrong in either direction.

Which are you planning to use this Fall on the elk mountain?

.30-06 700 CDL, 2-7x Redfield, sighted at 200 yds, with 165 gr Nosler Partitions at 2850 fps.

If I can't handle that much rifle by then... and I surely hope I can...

I've got the good ol' .25-06 with 115 gr Nosler Partitions at 3190 fps. Less recoil, shoots flatter, zero at 300 yds, but it's a fair bit smaller bullet.

Supposed to be bear hunting, first week of September. In recent years, that's been a .375 thing for me. I don't think I'll be shooting the .375 this year... The .30-06 at most, .25-06 as the backup plan.

If you want a home for those, "40, 180 gr Partitions. The bullets actually are coming out in good shape, nice." I will bet I have nearly an equal number of 165 PT's to trade?

You sly dog... 8) Naw, I'm going to keep those 40, 180 gr Partitions and add them to my stash. I've got a few boxes of 180's, 200's and even a box or two of 220's... Might never use all those "heavies" but it's nice to have them around.

Guy

Here you had my hopes up that you were giving away free bullets. Oh well that's one way to recover what you already have since you no longer have a 300 Win. (y)
Seriously glad you could save them and I hope your shoulder is in shape by the time hunting season rolls around so you don't miss the season.

Well, I am giving Excaliber a bunch of .300 Win mag brass! (y)

Guy,
I was doing the same thing the other day! I demilled a bunch of .243 and several other boxes of reloaded ammo that I now no longer have the rifles. I ended up with almost a pound of H414 and a bunch of bullets for practice and most important ammo boxes and storage space.
I hope your neck heals up quickly. An idea for you- Have you thought of a bolt on brake for your rifle? It would reduce the recoil substantially and maybe allow you to practice sooner. Then it would be easily removed with no permanent changes done to your rifle.

Dang im looking all over for .300wm brass..
I was in Cabelas on I 78 today and I'm pretty sure I saw Virgin 300 winny brass on the shell.

Hey there are no free lunches in this world ! I figure the time spent developing a load and loading 20 years ago at 1.5/yr inflation , plus time disassembling now and sorting components . Yep your into those bullets for 2$-no 20$- no 200$ per hour. Haha
