Full Moon & Hunting

Anyone have any opinions on how full moon effects hunting? I just read an article based on radio collared whitetail deer and it states full moon does not impact deer movement.

I always dread full moon hunting because it usually has sucky results. In 25-30 years of hunting, if opening day of buck season is within 3-4 days of full moon I usually didn't have a good buck season. Coincidence?

The moon's gravitational pull effects everything living but the big thing is the add light and it allows for earlier and longer night time feeding habits.

I wonder if the radio collared study was done during hunting season? In my neck of the woods the elk seem to come out later in the day, and wander around late into the night. In the morning they are tucked in early, but do come out again around 1400 for a bite. I do think hunting pressure has a lot to do with their habits, perhaps more than the moon phase does.
Yesterday is an example, I was hiking in a are that I bow hunted in a couple of weeks ago. I watched the herd for a couple of days during the season, they would come out about 1300 or and still be feeding at dark. Yesterday they came out before 1200 and were feeding when I feel over them on the edge of the road. They are tricky little buggers

In my experience, full moon means the deer move more in late morning through early afternoon. They don't move as much in the more typical patterns of early morning and late afternoon.

If there's a full moon I just don't bother hunting. The deer just aren't out in the day time at all and it would just be a chance 'bump' should anything show. It's not for me. ATB

I think the local bunny cops schedule the hunts to coincide with the tides, wishes of a gypsy sorceress, and the moon. Whichever will make it tougher for me.
But alas I will learn to outwit them! :)

I think you're right.

I've found it to be not that great. As it was explained to me, if it is a full moon and a clear night, they are up all night feeding and ... expressing their love for each other.
