Decided I better get some cartridges loaded up to start testing the 9.3X62 barrel that should be here by the end of the week. The other calibers can be played with after I have a good load worked up for this one.

Loaded with 286 grain Partition behind 55 grains of R15 and BR2 primers.

Flanked by loads for the 338-06: 200 grain AB on the left and 210 grain Partition on the right. Doesn't look like a huge difference, but we will see what kind of recoil comes in a 7 lb rifle

I bet it will be a hair more but very manageable. Not a sharp bite like a magnum. Is that a standard throat or did you extend it to 3.34"? That's one thing that's crossed my mind when I finally build one.

Always neat to see the various loads, especially ammo for the larger cartridges.

It has a standard throat. I don't plan on going bigger than the 286 NPT. This was put together as a caliber that can be used for moose and deer hunting when I am stalking in the thick stuff. The rifle is a Luxus (single shot) breach action that can handle 60,000 + pressures, I just don't need to push it that hard for my intended purposes.

Nice. That should work really well on most game... pretty much anywhere, I'd think.

Who's making the barrel?

Luxus uses Shilen air gauged barrels and has Speedy Gonzolas's shop do all their chamberings. I learned quite a bit of info about their barrels while talking to one of the owners during the process of ordering the barrels. Each barrel has the hanger and quarter rib manufactured and installed after they get the barrels from Speedy. I just purchased a Zeiss Victory HT scope in the 1.5 - 6 magnification that I hope to use for all three calibers. Not the perfect magnification for the 6BR, but with the light gathering capabilities and illuminated reticle it should make a good yote rifle for night hunting.

the nosler 286gr is undoubtably the best bullet out there for the 9.3x62. It works lika champ on moose and I’d bet anything else foolish enough to stand in front of it. I have been using 4350 with that bullet for 2425fps, I have also had good luck with ramshot big game. Big game is probably the best powder out there for the 9.3 if you can find it. I have also had decent luck with reloader 17.

I havne’t played around with the 250 AccuBond or the hornady 286gr but have heard from a few others tht the hornady is kind of soft. I have played with the speer 270gr bullet and while accurate I wouldn’t recomend it for anything bigger than deer/black bear and even then I would keep the velocities down. It is a very soft bullet probably best suited for the 9.3x57.

Good luck

Thanks for the info on powders. I recently purchased a can of IMR4166 that will be tried as well. The 4166 is supposed to fall into the Varget/R15 burn rates. Big Game powder hasn't been seen anywhere in these parts for quite a while. I'll get serious about load development once the barrel is broken in.

We will need to see that rifle. Glad to see you are still around.....and hopefully having some fun. Big Hammer :) CL

Yeah I got an action brass and bullets kinda scary!!!

My Number One, 9.3x74R gets about the same velocity with handloads for the 286 Partition. You might want to try the 250 Accubonds in that 9.3x62 also. You will get another 125 fps of velocity and it will still kill moose (ask DrMike). The big problem right now is finding heavy caliber Accubonds.

Very nice! Those big 286's look great.

That 9.3x62 is really a horse. Hard to resist the allure of them big heavy weights...
