Dusted off the ol Remington 700 three hundred Win Mag to retest for an upcoming hunt, haven't decided what species yet. Leaning on an oryx or a nilgai. I will decide soon once I'm free from work and have ample time to process the meats.

Tested 3 round groups in .3 increments using RL-25, lit by a WLRM primer and 180 grain Barnes TTSX from 77.6 to 78.8 grains. On my first Barnes test in the summer of July 2025, I settled on a nice group at 78.8 grains / 3235 fps average. That is the first picture. Today I stopped shooting at 78.5 grains which averaged 3270 fps. Not sure why, my guess is the hotter WMLR primer. Used the same seat depth, brass, powder and brass. I feel more comfortable with 3240 fps with 78.2 grains RL-25 and the group wasn't bad either. Quickload shows its about 1,400 psi overpressure with this load. I heard some clickers opening the bolt as well. I don't see any extractor marks on the head or flattened primers.

I don't know what you'll kill with that groupings..............well everything across all dimensions........no esc-a-pe for them.

A funny but stupid fact about me is I'd been shooting 264wm since I was 10 (almost 11) yo and was scared of the 308win thinking it would just recoil like crazy? Bought my 1st 300wm when I was 50 only because of the case similarlities between the 264 and 300. Now on range day I thought recoil wasn't going to be fun, but it wasn't much to talk about when using hsm 210 berger h-vld. It didn't take long to buy bigger so 338lm was next. Thinking recoil on this big boy was not going to be fun either, it was real mild. My 10yo loved it.

My bad, i the year wrong......he was 8 not 10.

Great shooting and wow, that 180gr is smoking! Factory barrel? 26"? Not much on this planet that'll take a 30 cal mono at over 3200 fps. Look forward to a hunting report.
