Getting the Ballistic Tips on paper

Swapped out the scope on the Savage 270 and finally got to the range to get it sighted in.
This gun had shot well with the 130 grain Accubonds and a different scope and I was curious how the 130 grain Ballistic Tips would do.
First got it on paper at short range and figured I would be on paper at 100 yards but no luck.
I was shooting way lower at 100 yards then I was expecting but finally got the first shot low at 100.
Second shot was high as I had over adjusted the scope.
Finally got one where I wanted it. Pulled the second shot to the right and then put the third in between for a three shot group that was just shy of an inch at 100 yards.
Will try again with a cool barrel and if it stays close I might get lucky and get a chance for a deer with it this year.
I can live with this result knowing I haven’t practiced and this is the first load tried with the 130 grain Ballistic Tips.

First time I’ve tried them so might set up the chrono on the next session. Seemed to be pretty mild and easy on the shoulder so I wouldn’t expect a great deal of speed with this.
Most of my shots will likely be within a couple hundred yards on a deer.
I might try to work up some 150 grain loads for cow elk in December.

Are the Tips loaded with the same powder and charge weight? The tips and AB have shot same point of impact, all else being equal.

That’s what I was wondering. I haven’t seen a 270 come close to 3k with less than about 60 grains of H 4831 and any 130. Nothing wrong with your load at and wasn’t pointing anything out other than wondering. Noslers 4831 data must’ve been some great stuff cause they are maxed around 58 I think. It’ll still kill bucks just fine though.

That load as is will kill truck loads of deer. The BT puts deer down fast.
