Anyone looking for bullets right now might want to give Midway a look. They have some items on clearance. I just found 6.5mm (.264) 130gr Sierra MatchKing's for $13.07 per box of 50. Can't hardly beat that on factory seconds. They may have other deals that y'all can use. I bought 8 boxes of these, lol. Just thought I'd pass it on. Gotta take those deals when you find them.

I've always wondered what makes them 2nd's. ?

Usually it's something cosmetic like a dark spot in the jacket material. Sometimes it's a weight issue. If I remember correctly, Sierra uses a .2 grain variance, high or low, from the bullet weight to make it a second.

Not a length/dimension issue?

Not that I ever heard. The ones that were grossly deformed in some manner were scrapped. It's been several years since I heard, but that's what the standards used to be.

Just to be clear, the ones I mentioned were not seconds. I was just making the point that this price was better than you can usually get on the seconds.

I know you did not buy 2nd's, but I bought several hundred .284 cal 2nds a couple years ago that were clearly 154gr SST's. When I recieved the bullets I weighed and measured the 2nds against some of the 1st quality that I had. I found a weight difference of maybe 2 grs and a length difference of about 5-6 hundredths of an inch, which was attributed to the red tip.

I loaded these 2nds to the same specs as my 1st quality and the results were almost identical. Group size was virtually same, the difference was in the windage. They were about a half inch left. I also used them to kill several deer. They performed flawlessly.
