Was cleaning out some old files today and came across a target I fired on with my .25-06 700 CDL. Looks like five shots in about a half-inch, outside to outside. No wonder I keep loading Retumbo and 115's in that thing...

Whats your go-to load and how does it perform afield and at the range?

Guy

I would have to say RL22 and 115BTs in my 25/06 has been my most consistent and accurate load. I picked up several bags of Nosler brass recently so I'll have to do some testing when my current stash runs out, that could be quite a while though. I wouldn't consider the 25/06 particularly difficult to load for, I've found quite a few combinations that shoot well enough to harvest game.

I understand that Nosler has used the .25-06 extensively as the test cartridge for their .257" bullets. Like you, I've found it responds to quite a few different powders, RL-22 among the top of the heap!

Guy in my wife's Remington Mountain Rifle with the 22" barrel it seems to work well with IMR4350. I haven't tried much else since this worked so well. I wonder if the R-22 would still work okay even though her barrel is 2" shorter than yours and it's quite a bit slower powder than IMR4350?

I think it would David, and for info H4350 is another favorite powder for me and my .25-06, particularly with the 100 gr bullets. High velocity and good accuracy for sure... I haven't tried IMR 4350 in it, like you have, but I suspect it would work out just fine.

Your wife's 22" barrel will likely do well with the slower powders too. Might be worthwhile to experiment.

Though... if it's not broken...

100g nbts with rl22 or retumbo

115g nbts or VLDS again with rl22 or retumbo

if they ever shoot over 1/2 I know its me!

Another favorite was 140g nbt with rl22 from 7 RM, again never shot much over 1/2.

162 amax and rl22 or h1000 was always great as well from the 7 RM.

40g vmax with IMR4198 from the triple deuce was always an accurate little sucker to.

Those are the ones that stick out for me anyways.

Well in my rifles that I shoot most often my favourite in my 270win it is .5 moa when I do my part and I use IMR4350 & 130gr ABs.
In my Whelen I get real close to the .5 moa using RL-15 & 225gr ABs.
I also load for my nephew & hunting partner of 40 years and they both use the same load in their 7mm mags and it again is very close to .5 moa using IMR4350. This past fall I started to play with a new load using my son's 270win with H4831sc and I believe that might come around with a little adjusting to be the best of the bunch but that is still in plans for this spring.
Now JD tells me that with my new :) 280AI all I need is RL-22 and 150gr ABLRs and I will forget about my 270win but again that is coming up this spring so we will be playing & going to the range.

Blessings,
Dan
