 worked a trade today....ended up with a Weatherby LazerMark in 30.06. The rifle is in new condition although it is a 1999 model.

It has a 26" barrel...should I be looking at a little slower burning powders with the long barrel? I believe this can make a a great all purpose Deer, Caribou, Elk rifle with the right loads/bullets.

I have lots of 150 NABs, 150 NPs, and 165 BTs....for Deer/Caribou

Thinking of 165 NPTs or 180gr NABs for ELK....I also have some 150 and 180 gr CT Failsafes

What do you guys think?

Hard to believe it has a 26" barrel because I have never ever heard WBY doing this. But hey you have the gun!
You're lucky you got a Jap made one. They rock!!!! Very accurate unlike the USA made crap!
I do not want to offend anyone but all themade in the USA 'bees I worked with have been....problematic to say the least.

My opinion....Launch 180 Nosler partitions at 2800 fps plus (26" barrel) with 61 gr RL22 or any of the other powders available and you're done! Mice to moose. Keep your life simple.!

Yes I was surprised to POP...I thought the non WBY cals were all 24" bbls. This one is definitely 26". 8)

180 Partitons at 2800 definitely rocks...thats up near the .300 Win realm. :p

BTW...it says made in Japan...I'm glad thats a good thing

165gr bullet, 58.5gr IMR-4350. Work up to the load. It has worked well in every 30/06 I have tried it in.Rick.

Rifle 1952 made Winchester Model 70 30-06 w/24" barrel
Nosler Part 180gr
61gr RL22 (when I went higher, groups opened up)
MV at 10' from muzzle: 2870fps
Accuracy of the bench: groups right at 1" @ 100 yards
Proven on bull elk at 304yds

Another favorite, same bullet and rifle. Load used 55gr of IMR4350 chrony at 2750fps and produced sub 1" groups at 100yds

Good luck with your 26" Wby. You should get higher velocity with that extra two inches.

I've hunted with a Rem 700 ADL 30-06 with 22 inch barrel for years.

My best all-round load has been Nosler 180 Partition with WW cases, and 58 grains IMR 4350. Chronographs at 2770 fps.

I'm eager to try the 180 Accubonds.
