Got a new to me rifle on the way

Hopefully have it in a week or so, but it looks like I got a used Winchester classic Model 70 featherweight 30-06 headed my way. Already have a 300 RUM, which I love, however this 30-06 will allow me to shoot a bunch of 308 cal bullets I have on the shelf!

Never hunted with a 30-06. I plan to get some Talley's ordered and a Leupold 6x36 to put on top for it. I got a bunch of Speer 165gr and 180gr Deep Curls to try as well as 180gr Nosler Ballistic Tips.

Sounds like a well thought out plan! A 6x36 in Talley's is a great choice.

That is a great combo the 6x36 is a fantastic scope, I really like mine. Like all of your bullet choices too, the Deep Curl is proving to be a winner and of course the 180 gr Ballistic Tip has a great reputation too.

The 30-06 will get the job done. Sounds as if you found a great rifle. I do love the Featherweight, and chambered in a classic cartridge like the 30-06, it will do all you ask of it and more, I do not doubt.

Model 70 Featherweight, in .30-06, with a 6x... We're talking a classy and classic combination.

This should be a really great all-around hunting setup. Looking forward to the photos, range reports, and hunt reports.

Only problem with a rifle setup like that, is that a guy just might realize that he doesn't actually "need" anything else...

Sounds like a great set up.
Guy & Scotty that's why I can't get away from my 30-06 scoped with a Leupold VXIII 1.5-5. All the gun and scope I need everything else is because I want it. :mrgreen:

With the new powders that 30-06 will do everything you want :wink:.
Winchester feather lites are classics you will be more than satisfied.

Congratulations on a wonderful rig all the way around. Without a doubt my favorite cartridge, and your planned configuration is about as perfect a rifle as I can imagine. I have one set up nearly identically.
