Got my goat back from the Taxidermist

Beautiful animals Gerry.

Pat, my dad said that during the tanning process blood is removed from the hair pretty easily.

gerry those are 2 great mounts (y)!! Man than would have been some rush having them in your cross hairs. As a flatlander I do not have many friends that have been able to enjoy that adventure!!
Thank you so much for posting.

Blessings,
Dan

Pity you have so few "friends" in BC, Dan. See you in August.

Gerry

Beautiful mounts buddy, congratulations.

Very nice animals Gerry, congratulations .

Dan, why drive all the way to BC. Some nice goats in the Northwest Territories. Of course if you hunt the NWT instead of BC, you would not have the pleasure of hunting with Dr Mike. and Gerry

All true, Cheyenne; all very true.

I wish that a bunch of you guys would get the chance to hunt goats, it would be the toughest hunt you would have been on most likely. Those of you who have been goat hunting like David and some of our Alaskan members would probably agree. Sheep country is tough but goats live in more difficult terrain. Just deciding which area to apply for right now for this fall, there are great open area spots (like where this guy came from) where you can just buy a tag and go hunting so we only pick really good areas to apply for a LEH permit.

Man that's awesome. The ones here in Nevada are no easy task. 45 degree granite slopes 10k elevation just don't slip.

Very true. On our last goat hunt, I ask my husband why are we doing this ? We are working harder to get an animal that tastes worse. Goats are a tough hunt, but anyone who has not hunted them, should, at least once.

Gerry, I am sure you said and I missed it. What do you shoot when goat hunting ?

Which rifle do you use Dr Mike when hunting goats ? On our last goat hunt, I used the 275 H & H and it did it's job.

Goat meat gets an undeserved bad reputation, yes the meat is usually tough but typically tastes sweet. We grind ours and also make sausage, roasts go into a slow cooker. When the billies rut the meat can be bad so in late November-December I don't like to hunt them.

This goat was shot with the 264 Win Mag and 130 gr Swift's, others have been taken with the 260 Rem, 30-06 and 308 Norma Mag. Would love to use the 35 Whelen and 270 Win in the next few that I get. Going out with friends and also my 2 year guiding career you can add the 280 Rem, 7mm Rem Mag, 300 Win Mag, 8x68 and 9.3x62, they all worked

Very nice! Looks like you are well on your way to rounding out the Grand Slam or have you already done that?

Have no plans to go for a grand slam of sheep, if I was younger I would maybe look at a "B.C. slam" which is a Stone, Dall, California Bighorn and Rocky Mountain Bighorn all of which reside in B.C. The Dall's are the least numerous with only a few hundred in the extreme northwest corner of the province. I would love to get a California Bighorn ram, maybe one day I'll get one of the coveted permits for one of those. Goats on the other hand are on the agenda every year since world class hunting for them is literally out the back door here.
