Pretty graphic. Sent to me in an e-mail, supposed to be in Wyoming. Interesting stuff.

I always figured an eagle could take a pronghorn or a small deer.

Well that sure is crazy. Never thought that would happen, at least not on a live animal. Thanks for sharing Guy.

We had a bald eagle try to grab a 45lb English Setter a couple of years ago, I hear that when he exited the scene the eagle was missing 4 of his tail feathers !!!! LOL

The antelope is seriously wounded and unable to run. I assume the injury occurred prior to the eagle attempting to feed. The last shot leaves the impression the antelope is about to fall, in which case the eagle will likely continue to feed. Nature is cruel, that is for certain.

Great picture Guy!

One of the neatest stories I heard was Eagles picking up baby sheeps and dropping them on rocks in order to kill and tenderize them? Read it in the Elmer Keith book..

National Geo had a great movie showing Eagles coming down on very young Mountain Goats and going between them and the mountain and it was amazing how many of them that sliped and fell to their death. Like Mike says nature can be very cruel. Around here the coyotes get the deer going in March when there is lots of snow and we start getting rain and it forms a perfect crust for the coyotes to run on and of course the deer cut right thru it ............... we see deer all the time that time of year that come into peoples yards to get away from the coyotes and the backend of them looks just like this antelope................... :(

That's pretty incredible that the eagle could lift an animal that heavy! Thanks for sharing the photo's.

Doc that was my thinking too, either way, quite an impressive pictorial

I just crossed the Missouri River today on my way to Topeka and witnessed two male bald eagles dive bombing something down on a river flat. I don't know what they were after, but I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end. Absolutely amazing animals. That is one animal that just amazes me to no end. Guess thats why I have one permanently inked on my shoulder...

Those eagles are no light weights. Have watched red tailed hawks kick a coyote off a carcass. That said, I suspect that goat was wounded or starving when the eagle got a hold of it. Reality kinda makes the Disney version of things look ridiculous dont it. Not to worry Guy there will stilll be some left. CL

Info I've been getting suggests that this isn't all that rare, and that the eagles will attack, either solo or as a pair. They don't need for the animal to be wounded or injured, but will attack a healthy pronghorn or deer. Apparently it's more common in the winter, when ice and snow may slow the pronghorn or deer a bit.

At least that's what I'm getting from folks who are supposed to know these things. Darned if I know!

I thought the photos were too cool to keep to myself though - and dang - I'd hate to be that pronghorn!
