Thks Mike - My draw is in 7-16 the Parsnip River area :) Sorry to hear " no draws for you " ! :(

Now what rifle - cartridge to use :?: LOL

That is a great area. How about your 450 Marlin? I used a .356 Model 94 on my last grizz. Of course, a 7RM and on up will work pretty well for these mountain grizzlies. A 30-06 could be just the ticket for you, giving some reach if needed and delivering a pretty good blow. What other options are you considering? Is this a golden opportunity to pick up a new rifle for this hunt?

NO 30-06 in my Collection ! But i do have a few other's  I really like my 375 H&H & my 300 Weatherby and for close up i will prob use the M-GG95 45-70 or the 450 BLR Marlin  I have shot lots of bears incluing 2 G bears so i am not new to it - just tossed the question out there for kicks & giggles ! Thanks

Yup! Any of those will work quite well. You're well equipped. I still think this is a golden opportunity to justify a new rifle. (325WSM, 35 Whelen, 358 Norma, 9.3X62, etc.)

Yeah, Grizzly's do make you wanna be carrying something special! Anything 338 or 35 caliber sounds fitting!

I think my next custom will be a 338-06 - i think thats the BEST one based on the 06 case ! I have my 338 Federal now and a 358 Win also . Maybe a 358 STA - thats a banger too - but theres nothing that any of them can do that my 375 H&H can`t do better !

Cheers RJ

Yup! A 338-06 would be a fine cartridge. Kinda' like a 35 Whelen, only less potent.

RJ - Congrats! What a great tag to draw.

Best of luck on the hunt.

22 Hornet you say? Interesting!

Man, that Doc stole the words from my mouth!

Congrats Jim :) .A Grizzly hunt is on my bucket list also in the next year or two,or Alaska/Yukon Trophy Moose. Good luck to you,
Regards, Lou

I would thik a custom .35 Whelen would work just fine. Load up a 225 gr. TSX to somewhere in the 2600/2700 FPS range and it should pass through from appetite to exhaust pipe.

You are just BAITING me   You know iam not really a 35 Cal guy :( - i like the 33 cal then the 375 then the 45 cal cartridges - maybe a 416 Taylor is in the works too !

Cheers RJ

Scotty,

Even a blind hog finds acorns sometimes. Anyway, I'm just jealous because he got a draw and I didn't. Jim, I'm all for you and I'm looking forward to a good report of your hunt this fall.

An inland grizzly hunt, in the mountains... Now that's a dream!

Do believe I would truly enjoy that hunt. Am very much looking forward to the hunt report and some photos!

Best of Luck! Guy
