The big personage emporium and chicken sales store called today.

It seems my 6.5 x 284 is in. I'll have to go pick it up Saturday.

I'm sure it will be a hardship to have that rifle in your hands, Vince. Of course, we will all need to see some pictures. And you need to get out to the range ASAP to give us opportunity to vicariously pull the trigger with you. Come on, man, what's holding you back?

I'll put this one in the safe until I get some optics for it.
Planning to break it in this winter. I'm playing with the .338 right now and almost have a good load ready for it. I'll use the .338 for deer this year.
This is a Savage Long Range Hunter in the aforementioned 6.5 x 284 with a left hand action. I had to have my dealer order it directly from Savage and they took ten weeks to build it and get it to my dealer. I'm looking forward to playing with this rifle and caliber but I don't want to take my Zeiss scope off the .338 until I have a replacement scope to put on the .338 Win Mag.
Right now the .338 has the HD5 5 - 25 X 50 with a Z800 reticle on it. That would be a great scope for the 6.5 caliber I selected. I'm thinking of putting a HD5 3 - 15 X 50 with a Z600 reticle on the .338 Win as I think 5 power may be a little too much scope on the bottom end for some of the stuff I'd likely use the .338 for. I already have a 3 - 9 X 40 with a Z6 reticle on the 30-06.

Nice! Congratulations Vince.
Post some pictures when you get her home.

Such kindness leaves me breathless. What more could Vince expect from Canucks? We're a friendly lot.

I am always thinking of ways to help people in Need. That is just how us Canadians are made Eh!
Really though Vince please don't keep us in suspense should would like to see a photo or two of the new setup, I be she is real sweet.

Blessings,
Dan

The kindness of this forum is overwhelming given the nature of my daily life.
Somebody needs to kick me. :) Seriously, I'm looking forward to this one.

That's sweet Vince. Can't wait to see what this rifle does on the range. I handled a few of them a couple years back and they look tailor made for longer range hunting. I'm sure the Savage won't disappoint you either.

I talked to the wife tonight and I may have a scope coming sooner rather than later. :)

I was kind of hoping Sask Boy would run, oh, say about 1500 - 2000 rounds through that 6.5-284 for you.

You know, for barrel break-in, load development. field testing and scope adjustment...

What's that you say? Barrel life on the 6.5-284 is about 1500 - 2000 rounds? Huh... Who knew?

I won't know something that technical as barrel life. But I promise that it will be less than 500 down the tube !

Blessings,
Dan

With such consideration how could I not take the fine gentleman up on his offer?

Vince

Vince you have a great judge of character in my opinion !
Well I sure hope you pick up some great optics for that little lady and then we will get a range report with photos >

Blessings,
Dan

I had the stock off tonight and adjusted the trigger pull.
Seems like a fair quality piece of plastic for a cheap stock. My only complaint, so far, is that the barrel touches the tip of the stock when it's advertised as being free floating. I'll wait until I see how it shoots before getting the dremel tool out.

Vince

Nice, looking forward to the pictures and to see how well it shoots. Another great thing about Savage is they will make a semi custom gun for a guy, not too many manufacturers will do that these day without changing a lot of money for it.

Went to the Gunsmith today, P.L. Holehan, and he took the scope off my .338 and put it on my new Savage 6.5 x 284 and put a Zeiss Conquest HD 3-15 x 50 on my .338 Win Mag.

The Savage 6.5 x 284 wears a Zeiss Conquest HD 5-25 x 50. We also measured the trigger and I'm going to adjust it down and bed the recoil lug and make the barrel free floating before I even shoot it after talking it over with with Patrick Holehan. He gave me some great advice and tips.

We also talked about a future build. Now I just need to start saving my pennies.

Vince

This is sounding like a great setup, Vince. Pictures? We're all waiting!
