I'll be picking up my "new to me" left hand Model 70 in .338 on Friday evening after a medical procedure.

Now if I could just be taught how to post pictures on this here forum, from my phone, I'll be happy to show it off. This is the rifle I found at Cabela's a couple/three months ago. Bedded, floated, trigger job, muzzle brake installed, stock cut to fit, stock oiled, matte finish on bluing, and scope mounted. Now I just need to see if it shoots. I have more in the Gunsmithing than I do the rifle. Time to hit the reloading room and start working up loads.

That sounds like a great pick up. Congratulations. Yeah, pictures would be nice. You're welcome to send them to me and I'll post them, Vince.

Be neat to see how it turned out looking forward to seeing it. Called Winchester the other day and the LH model 70 is a no go for this year, the earliest will be 2015

That's great Vince. That sounds like a great package! Not sure how you could go wrong with a 338 Model 70 Vince!

Sure hope Winchester puts out some Left Handed M70's for you guys... It opens up a whole new market for Mike to push rifles on....

A LH 270 Win or 264 WM would be hard to turn down, but if they don't get their act together all the opening in the safe will be filled.

Now that is the good sorta "arms race"!

Sure, pick on the old guy. Everyone knows that I am balanced and reasonable, unlike some Marines, whom modesty prevents me from naming.

If I like you I recommend Winchester.
If I don't, Remington, especially a new one. There ain't too many folks I don't like. I'm going to try and hold out until 2015 and see if Winchester makes a run of left handed rifles. If not I'll give my Gunsmith a call and have him build me one. He bases everything off a CRF action. I'm thinking a 25-06 would be a good second rifle.
If I get a third rifle I'll like opt for a lightweight .270 WSM. That would give me the 25-06, .270 WSM, and .338 Win Mag for all North American game. What do you all think? Am I missing something? African dangerous game is not in the cards for me and the .338 would be my largest with the 25-06 being the varmint up to deer gun and the .270 WSM sort of overlapping both calibers and mostly dedicated to backpack hunts in the mountains.

That's a pretty good stable of cartridges; each has stood up well to the challenge of the field.

Yeah, that is a pretty solid big game line up Vince. I know I could get by just fine with the 270WSM and 35 Whelen or the 264WM and 338 Win Mag.. Either of those, in no particular order would get me by fine.

"Hello, Pot? This is Kettle..."

I love it when Fotis, Mike and Scotty argue over who is the bigger enabler...

No question about the answer to that, Kurt. Blame the youngster; his shoulders are broader.

Yup with those 3 it could almost become a reality show .
Vince what ever you decide I am sure they will do the job for you.

Blessings,
Dan

Congratulations, the .338 is a great tool to have available. The '06 or any of its derivatives, paired with a .338 WM, would cover the continent quite nicely I think.

If you get to the point of building a deer rifle it might be worth considering something out of the ordinary, such as a something Ackley?
