Also, Jerry is jealous as i gave him a bill for a rifle I wanted for his birthday, so he wants to know if your wife has an unmarried sister ?

Aleena,

That is funny.

All I can say is I have a spare room for Jerry if he ever wants to get away.. HA!

Well, I ordered up some Tally QRW rings and their bases today for the 338. It should be in tomorrow, at least I am hoping it will be. Won't get the perfect scope for awhile, but the 2-10 Minox should do just fine this Fall. Gotta get down to the reloading room and load up a few charges with the 210 PT's. Hoping to find something to shoot right outta the gates. If it is like any other 338, it shouldn't be too hard to find a decent load that shoots well enough to kill elk.

Well, the 338 Win Mag is at the FFL's place. I was going to go and grab it today, but I got eaten alive with chiggers yesterday, so the Benedryll has me pretty worn down. I can't do much with it today anyhow, as I haven't gotten the bases or rings yet.

I loaded up some stuff with RL19 and IMR4350 this afternoon, with 210 PT's. I think if I can get either of them to look decent, I will hunt it this Fall. I don't wanna spend a ton of time trying to get the 1 holer, but if I can get something to group less that 1.5" at 100 yards for right now, I think it'll work fine for elk this Fall.

I believe such a load would work very well for elk.

Scotty

I am certain you have selected the right powders.
I am guessing RL 19 will treat you right with the 210 gr PT. 2900-3000 fps is very realistic and would be a nightmare for even the biggest elk on the mountian.

I think so too Jim. Brian is fondling my rifle right now, so hopefully tomorrow morning I can get my hands on it. The rings and bases should be in tomorrow as well. I have a chance to get it out to the range also. Hoping something shoots decent enough to not have to make me work really hard..

Sorry about the chiggers bud. They are extremely aggravating and I feel for ya.

Otherwise it's all looking up! That would be great if you could get a decent load worked up fast for the wolf slayer.

Oh, yeah, chiggers; that's another thing I don't miss about the southern States. Of course, I traded them for black flies, deer flies and some of the most vicious, blood-thirsty anacouthalons ever to take wing.

They both achieved minute-of-elk for me, but I'm still fine tuning before I post results... Good luck man. Looking forward to seeing pics of that gem!

Matt and myself drooled over it last night after I picked it up! He thought it was a cool " Work the Bolt Gun"

My goodness, that rifle almost fits Matt! Scotty may have to leave it behind!

Well, I got it home. Now I am just waiting on the mailman to bring me some rings/bases so I can get a scope mounted. This rifle is even nicer in person. I can't ever say how happy I am right now. Unless the barrel is bent, I can't see it not shooting well. It seems to be very well taken care of.. Here are a couple of shots of the newest 338 Win Mag..

Matthew will get his turn behind it when he wants.. I will share..

The Talleys finally showed up. I am very happy with the look and function of their rings and bases. They look first class and Talley is an excellent company to do business with. Very nice people on the telephone and extremely helpful. Anyhow, I mounted up the ZA5 2-10-40mm Minox. Looks pretty nice on top of the rifle. Mounts and everything came together well.

I do like my Talleys and you are spot on about them being a pleasant company to deal with. That Minox looks pretty good perched atop the Model 70.

Thanks Mike. I haven't used a ton of Talley's in the past, but their QD system looked pretty fitting for the rifle. They seem very strong and ultra repeatable as well.
