I suspect a quick call or email to Hornady will get you whatever data they've tested so far.

THANKS gentleman, guess a little nervous since i measured bullet and was .309 of a inch and being a mono bullet.I will start off with varget since it is the slowest and work my way up,thanks again.

I've got some and have shot them in a couple 308's and a 30-06. They do make pressure...my estimate is you want to be about 2-3 grains under 150 data as a starting point.
I'm gonna try em in a newly aquired 30-30 this week (hopefully) and my chosen start load is 30 grain i3031.

Cool, i have just loaded a couple up and got inch groups right out of the gate with varget powder, r-15 i think will do even better. I will play and we will see. 8) And by the way Mike that quick load is beyound uncanny accurate in estemating loads for my gun.

Don't tease us...can you give us details on loads, chrono reading and details on your gun???

The rifle is a savage 340 bolt action, used 30 grns of varget so far, used lee factory crimp tool. Crono reading @ 20 feet away was 2092 fps with a 22" barrel. group was basically 1". I will be taking it up to 2300 fps, most likely use reloader 15 or something to get there.in the past i have got serrias up to 2400 fps with out any pressure signs.have loaded 130 and 165 grn tsx's in past for half " groups just over all lenght to long for clip.even loaded 125 bt for basic one hole groups, same clip problem.

Cool on the Savage. I actually wanted one before I picked up my Marlin 336. There was a local estate auction that had one of the Savages. It didn't even have a clip and was in average shape at best. I hoped to pick it up for about $170...the darn thing brought $240!!
Glad to hear the monoflex shot good. They seem pretty "iffy" on accuracy reputation. It shot really bad in two of my guns but did ok in a 308 bar.

I will have to get used to a system to post my pics to share things like my guns, targets, and past hunts. MY 340 is of new condition or darn close to it and only has killed 1 moose, one elk, one yote.i have thought of selling it numerous time , but can not bring myself to sell it for it shoots as good as it looks.

Man, that sounds like a keeper for sure! Glad you are getting such good accuracy out of the 140's. Those would make some good moose bullets I imagine. Looking forward to some pictures!

This is where i am at so far, worked up to 32.5 grn of varget for 2325 fps, point of impact same from 30 to 32.5 grns with rem.brass.Bullet performance is great from all pulled from target butt. Here is the interesting thing, when i loaded a set in virgin brass i lost nearly 100 fps from a previous load from once fired load.Point of impact was same, just alot slower. :? :)

Here is a pic of my 340 savage in 30-30 win, shoots as good as it looks.

That change is surprising. My headspace measurer says in my marlin 30-30 my cases are blowing forward .032" from a virgin dimension and that would cause (I think) and easy 50 fps difference. Maybe it will be more. I ALWAYS find once fired and resized to just under chambered dimension brass will get more velocity than virgin.

BTW....THAT IS .....one heck of a nice looking Savage.
