Haven't been able to shoot for a few weeks so I've gotten quite a bit of reloading done. Going to be a fun time testing all of it tomorrow! On tap, I've got 40gr varmageddon's for the 22-250 using IMR4895 and then 52gr Amax's with H380 and IMR4895.

I also found a box of 225gr .338 Speer Deep Curl's today while I was nosing around a local store so I picked up a box and thought it might be a fun round to try out in the 338 LM. Should be a screamer! Might be one heck of an all around hunting load if the accuracy is there. Trying them over some IMR7828 to start with. Talked to a Speer employee today and asked him if they would ever come out with a 250gr DC and he said they likely would, but were currently trying to get their current line out on the store shelves and load data tested before they release anything new.

I also plan on trying to shoot some groups at 300 yards or maybe longer with the 300gr AB's as long as the wind isn't too bad. Haven't shot them at any extended ranges yet so that will be fun.

I'll post my results when I get back tomorrow. After the last couple of weeks I've had it's going to be very therapeutic to get out and burn some powder!

Good luck and have fun. It will be interesting to see how well the Varmageddon and Deep Curls do.

Looks as if you've good a full day ahead of you. Enjoy. I hope to be back out on Friday.

Looking forward to your range results. Have fun!

Good luck. If your 22-250 is anything like mine, you will find that it will shoot whatever you feed it well. I tried 6 or so different powders in mine and got dime sized groups with all. I finally settled on IMR 4320 as it gives me one hole groups. have a great time!

We are in the monsoon cycle here for a few more days, so probably no shooting. I am also training volunteers again this weekend. In addition a pulled a calf muscle two days ago and its very painful to walk. Soooo enjoy the weekend all !!

Good luck out there buddy. I am looking forward to seeing what the 225's do in the Lapua. Those would be pretty awesome out of the Lapua. Be cool to blast a few of them into jugs to see how well they hold up to Lapua speeds.

Well, it was an absolutely craptastic day weather wise.....buckets of rain and plenty of wind to go with it. But I said what the hell and let the lead fly! Started off well with getting on paper with the 22-250 and sighted in with 4 rounds. First up was the 52gr Amax with H380. didn't set up the chrony due to the driving rain.
37.5gr

38.0gr

38.5gr looking like a winner, might fine tune seating depth a bit...

39gr may have pulled the flyer a bit...but not sure

Next was the 52gr Amax with IMR4895
33.5gr

34gr

34.5gr

35gr rain let up a bit and I couldn't stand not knowing what kind of velocity I was getting so I set up the chrony real quick

Avg 3681fps, ES 17.92, SD 9

Not sure it will get much better than the 38.5gr load with H380 so I'll persue that one some more and fine tune it a bit.

Now on to the 40gr Varmageddon. I did something a little different with this one just to experiment a bit. I picked a powder and charge that would give me a velocity I'd be happy with and then loaded 5 rounds each with varying seating depths. All of the following are with IMR4895 36.2 grains.

First was the deepest set at COAL 2.38"

Avg 3841, ES 85.57, SD 34.52

COAL 2.39"

Ding ding ding....found where they like to be. Wish I wouldn't have pulled the last shot and ruin an awesome group!
Avg 3858, ES 34.48, SD 14.38

COAL 2.40"

Avg 3832, ES 31.6, SD 14.14

And in my never ending quest for super high velocities I loaded up a few using IMR3031
35.5gr

Avg 3915, ES 39.37, SD 21.95

36.5gr

I screwed up and got all excited and pushed the wrong button erasing the data for this string...but I did see a couple of velocities as I was shooting, 4050, 4024.... Pretty good group on this one as well, and I would LOVE to see one of these hit some varmints at those velocities!

Then it was on to the big gun. I wanted to verify my accuracy load I found with the 300 AccuBond in my 338LM. I shot a 4 round group and was not disappointed!

Avg 2704, ES 30.8, SD 13.07

Next it was on to experimenting with the 225gr Speer Deep Curl. I chose IMR7828 to try with them.
88gr

Avg 2865, ES 52.08, SD 26.62
89gr

Avg 2898, ES 21.5, SD 11.13
Got excited when the first 2 were touching....not sure if I pulled the last one or if it was just a flyer. I think I need to play with seating depth with these.

My 22-250 with the upgraded Manners stock and a Leupold VX3 4.5-14LR with TMR reticle and M1 knobs.

While the weather was horrendous, I managed o get some useful data to narrow down some loads. Hopefully the weather will stop sucking soon and I can get out and shoot some groups when the wind and rain aren't hammering me!

Looks like you had a great time. it's also raining where I live, so I haven't been out lately. Those Manners stocks sure are nice. If they just didn't cost so much!

Your 22-250 is certainly dialed in. It is looking good. Your work with the Deep Curl bullet is show some real promise as well.

Yeah, very nice work with the 22-250. Alot of great data right there!

Your 338 looks like it just getting warmed up with those 225's! The 300's look excellent as well..

Boy, that's dedication! I flew in yesterday, and the weather was UGG LEE!

Good stuff! Yes, these storms rolling in from the Pacific are drenching us in Washington too! Lots of fresh snow in the mountains.

Was very impressed with the results you saw with the 300 gr Accubonds. Nice...

Nice job out there and that's a lot of dedication shooting out in the storm like that. That 22-250 sure looks sweet in the picture you posted of it.

Thanks guys. Not sure if it was dedication, or stubbornness mixed with impatience but I suppose the results were the same. Either way the rifles didn't seem to mind the weather much... At one point I got buzzed by a national guard blackhawk.....he was dang near flying sideways because of the strong wind....he was probably less than 200 feet above me and seemed like he slowed down a bit to check me out. Probably said hey guys, check out this crazy dude out shooting in this weather!

Right now I'm just wishing I would have ordered a bunch more boxes of the 300gr Accubonds....only ordered one box to test to make sure they shot well and now the expected date back in stock isn't until June!

I was very happy with the 22-250. Sure seems like the new stock settled down the accuracy. Going to be a fun little varmint gun! I was also impressed with the accuracy I was getting out of the Varmageddon bullets. Can't wait to test their terminal performance out....
