Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I haven't found the answer through searches here and at other locations.

It seems to be common knowledge that a fast twist rate is necessary for longer heavier bullets. Not enough twist causing keyholing etc.

Is there too much twist rate? My 243 is 1 in 9.25" and it needs to be used on both ends of the bullet weight range. 55 - 65 grains for pdogs and 95 grains for deer.

As long as the bullet remains intact with the fast twist, is there any reason not to use it?

Thanks in advance!

Generally speaking, there is no problem with spinning a bullet faster than is needed to stabilize it. That is why the rule of thumb is to use a barrel with a fast enough twist to stabilize the heaviest/longest bullet that you intend to shoot. It will be much faster than needed for lighter/shorter bullets but it will still work.

Many competitive shooters believe that extreme accuracy occurs when spinning a bullet at the minimal rate necessary to stabilize it and no faster. For what it's worth, slower twist barrels shoot faster, foul less and are easier on thin jacketed match bullets. Generally speaking anyway.
