Here is an old post off Reloaders Nest,

Gavin -

My 6.5 Swede is a CZ550 with 24.5 inch bbl, and 2800 fps is more realistic with 140 grain bullets. This takes surprisingly slow powdwers like R22 and IMR 7828, even R25.

The 4350 burn rate is too quick for the 140s in that small bore. Your idea about vn560 is very good though...Nosler lists it at 2822 fps with a max load of 46.0 grains for their Partition 140.

Interesting info.....'maybe Scotty will chime in on his thoughts for best velocity for 140gr bullets?????

if you have RL26 that would be my starting powder . I used the 140 Berger VLD bullets .

these would be considerded max loads , so start low and work up .

Wow,
Thank you very much Jim, for posting that! And I have 8 lbs of RL26 from Scotty's recommendations for the.270...... And he was correct ,as we are getting Superformance velocity with it!
I will try some 26 with these blemishes Bergers and see if we can crack 2800???? Looks like 52 GRS is about where angels fear to tread!!! As your approaching 60k.....probably would have
Blown the bolt right out of my Dad's old model 93!!! ( cocked on the down stroke..) :?
Think that would kill a coyote at 400 consistently?????

I don't think you have a thing to worry about .

I haven't killed anything big with the bergers yet . I have killed a few crows and groundhogs with my 7-08 and 140 VLD's at 3080FPS . I sure didn't have to track them any . you should get similar results . from what I see , they are not fur friendly !!

this is my first kill of the 2016 season . I shot one this year at 600 - 605 yards , I think this was him .

26 should get you the speed. My only issue with 26 is getting enough in some of the smaller cases. 2800 should be pretty easy.

Just did the math with 6.5 Nosler RDF .658BC
Compared to the Blitz Kings; .388BC, in the 25/06 that
Work so darn good @300 , for us on brush wolves.
With a 30kt wind the drift error is 50% less, or 12" vs18" of
Drift.......that's is a big deal in this situation.
That chuck at 605 blows my mind........WOW, I thought hitting a Tide container was good! Lol
I have hunters clean miss 1000lb Bull Moose standing broadside for 30 secs from 150 yds at times.....
We have them wound them close to 50% of the time,
We have them shoot them, more than once 85% of the time.

Gee Earl they sound more like bullet slingers from the spray and pray crowd then hunters.

Well they ALL talk a big story at the Lodge in front of a cheerie fire. But out in the field when the wind is driving the sleet and snow sideways, and they are under A LOT of pressure, it has been my observation that a very high percentage of these fellas that shoot incredible groups when no one is present. Have been know to struggle to pull
It off in the bottom of the ninth inning.....
Shooting off a rest under a canopy roof, from a cement bench, on a Bluebird day with no wind at high noon:
And standing in water over the top of your boots leaning up
Against a little fir tree, half frozen, and your scope full of sleet, and getting so dark, your not sure what your seeing anymore, as your trophy is taking the last couple of steps, before it's gone for good on the last day of the hunt, sure sorts em out in a hurry!

I'm using 7828SSC with the 140 Accubonds for about an even 2750. Accuracy is excellent. Next, I'm going to try some 26 and see what happens. If it's not as accurate, I'm A-Ok with 2750 and the 140's. I know they will reach plenty far for me.

Cool keep us posted how the 26 works out Scotty! I kept seeing alot of good things about the VV N560 powder all over the internet, so cruised over to Midway to see if they had it......... WOW, I dont care how good it is..... its almost $50 per pound   what is that all about??
So then there is also a ton of folks recomending RL22, it is a heavy favorite for 140gr bullets. Here is what was posted back in 2010,
Re: 6.5x55 loads with 140gr bullets:

I have not tried any of the 4350s with 140 grain bullets. However I would reccomend working up your load with RL22 and it usually does very well. Some chambers and brass (capacity) will take up to 50 grains of RL22 with 140 grain bullets without pressure, but data manuals always say the max is 46 grains. Start with about 43 grains and this will likely yield a velocity of about 2450-2500 fps and work up from their. You will not see huge velocity gains per .5 grain of powder but they will be consistent until you get to your max load. At max, while you will likely not see pressure signs, your velocity gains will either stop or start to decline. when you stop seeing gains back off .5 grains and call that your max. With this cartridge there is a lot af variance in maximum load, especially with reloader 22. Your most accurate load will almost positively be between 45 and 47 grains from my experience. This has been the case in about 9 different 6.5x55s that I have owned. Now, with the 140 SST you may not get any outstanding velocities but they tend to be accurate. they have a very long bearing surface and tend to have a slightly lower maximum load than other 140 grain BT hunting bullets. Your maximum velocity with about any powder will probably be about 2700 FPS with a 23 inch barrel, anything beyond that should be seen as a gift. On that note with the BC of the 140 SST you should be able to easily kill deer sized game a 500 yards still. If you want to get into the 2800+ velocity range with a 140 I recommend a berger VLD. I have gotten good velocity and accuracy with 140 grain 6.5x55 loads with IMR7828 as well and while I cannot remember the starting load off the top of my head, I don't think you can fit enough in the case to cause an over-pressure situation. 7828 doesn't do that well in a 20 inch barrel because it just burns too slow, you will just have to try it with the 23 inch barrel if you want. In longer barrels it seems to do very well. If you are getting a lot of muzzle flash, try a Federal 215 primer. It will help to get a better burn from the heavier charge in the shorter barrels. I use them with all of my loads in my Steyr and my velocities seem to have improved along with reduced muzzle flash. Of course when you are getting heavy muzzle flash, you are probably not getting the full potential from your powder charge and ES/SD will likely suffer.
This fella seams pretty all over it, to me.

That bullet is most likely the NEW Nosler target VLD bullet not a Berger. I was looking at Midway's blemished bullets that are on sale and this bullet is there. Most of these bullets are either Hornady or Nosler.

E , I've missed my share of gimmie shots ! the ones that make me shake my head and ask , how in the world .

now you $ee why I don't u$e V-V powder.

this morning I looked at IMR4350 and H4350 they are slow on velocity .they max out at about where RL26 begins . this slower velocity wouldn't intrest me . the quicker the bullet gets there the less the wind will effect it . with you having RL26 I'd start with that , it looks like a perfect choice to me . book max load is 50.9 gr and about 99% case fill . this lets room to go up , as needed , if pressure sign are not showing up . next I'd try IMR7828ssc 49.1 gr and 99.7% case fill . this also allows a little room to exceed max load if the pressure looks good and you need to .my next would be RL22 49.0 gr at 101.3% . this is getting to be full case . you have a little room to play at higher charges but not as much . I try to stay at or under 105% . I also don't think a mag primer is necessary for this cartridge .

here is a IMR4350 to look at .

Jim,
That all sounds like rock solid advise, and I am certainly going to use it. Super nice of you to help, and share your.extensive reloading knowledge. As your all well aware
My experience is much more in the field, than at the bench.
I am a lot more likely to post pics of trophy animals, than targets with tiny groups.
However to be able to draw on the Knowledge that exist on this board, when a fella needs some direction is superlative. Thanks a bunch for your help, it's truly appreciated.
PS. What is that load that sends the 140 Vlds over 3k; in the 708???? I would like to introduce it, to mine!!!! (y)

1shot,
You could be right on that, we are just guessing, I believe
Nosler actually refers to them as "RDF"s, but I do know what you mean. I actually have 300 of the RFD bullets showing Up today! In 105gr, for our.243. So will compare them side by side to try and confirm your theory (y) .RDF-Bullet-Info-6mm-105gr.jpg

Here is a group for those that get off on target pictures. It was shot with T3 6.5 x55 with Varget........
GroupP.jpg That's what I call impressive, no flyer excuses, with this one.

I'm going to do some 26 work with the 140's soon. Just to see what happens. It looks to be worth 2800 or better while keeping it under 60K PSI.

51.5 looks darn good at 57k, I am going to put the Weaver Tactical, Mil Dot scope on the new 6.5;
great glass for the money but a touch short on eye relief but got around it with a front ring extension that lets me come back almost an inch more, that cured that problem.719FL0qwC+L._SL1500_.jpg It is presently on the 25/06 right now, So will put the Leopold CDS back on the 25/06, as I had a dail cut for it last fall for the 120gr Speers, Anyway I have ordered a new Boyd's Laminate stock, in Forest camouflage for the Sweede, just for bench shooting. ft-gun.pngAnd also new SS bolt Handle. (y) $T2eC16R,!zoE9s5ne2UUBRibOEN)kg--60_1.JPG Just to trick it out a little bit, will probably wind up fluting the bolt, if it shoots good??
I plan on striping that all off, in the spring ,and put it back Into the field configuration of Camouflage T3 stock and Factory bolt handle for normal hunting.

Start About 4 grains lower. QL is quite high with their charges with 26. You'll likely get the same speed with a lesser charge.

Forgot to mention that.

You're right though. 2800+ with a 140 should be a fun combo.
