Help with loads for 6.5x55

Jim,
Last thing on earth, I ever though was that you were not truthful, so if that is the way you read that, I APPOLGIZE right now on that. I respect your opinions on here completely.........
However I was questioning how a 7mm could get the same weight bullet going faster ,assuming same case capacity? I think Dr Mike & Scotty, just explained how that could happen.
Again Jim, sorry if that came across wrong, it was never your figures of the 708 I doubted, it was the figures of the 6.5 velocity, that I was wondering about. :|
One thing I have NO doubt about is that you and Scotty have perhaps forgotten more about reloading than my knowledge of it! Sure hope that Calarifys all that. :|

GERRY,
I Forgot to respond to the overall length question, as I was getting into hot water by accident with Jim!
That picture was to get Scotty going as that won't fit into
Any gun!!!

Here are a few of my loads. I think they are around 3.150" or so....

That 108 Lapua Scenar is on the right. It is a long pill.

It has some good BC on it for a 108 grain bullet..

E , no need to apologize . I've taken things out of context . I've opened my mouth and inserted my foot . I'm sorry for the ruckus . Jim

SJB358,

Curious as to what the bullet to the right in the first photo is? I do not recognize it. Looks very interesting.

Sorry, my fault...I meant the one on the left!

Brain thinking one thing, fingers typing another (type-ical dislexia kicking in -pun intended! LOL)

155 Lapua Mega. Pretty neat bullet. Was decently accurate right outta the gate.

Pssst. Scotty, be gentle with Gil. English isn't his native language.

Thanks Scotty!

Although English may not be my native tongue...I can't speak that either! LOL

No worries, I still take directions referred to Marine left or Marine right.... I still never go the correct way but I always liked hearing "your other left Marine"

Have you taken any game with that Mega bullet yet?

That looks like a great bullet for moose, elk and bears out of the Swede, in the dark timber. Thinking it would be almost perfect out of a Ruger No. 1 RSI! That frontal area would really impart some energy for expansion, while that long shank would provide awesome penetration!

Gil, I have loaded up some of those 155 gr Mega bullets in my 264 Win Mag but haven't shot any game with them yet. I don't know how they will perform with the extra 300-400 fps but know it has a great reputation at typical 6.5x55 speeds. Once I get out over 100 yards though it will have slowed enough not to worry about coming apart.

Ok some advice here from those of you firmilar with Bergers, how far off the lands should I be with these
Bullets???? Getting ready to leave the 525 yd target headed
Out to 1000 yds and a milk jug, lol

my 7-08 with the 140 VLD's is in the lands . sometimes it will stick a bullet in the bbl when unloading , this is a BIG PITA . I am jumping the 300 gr bullets in my 338 . I'd have to look at my notes for the jump though .. the 338 bullets didn't seem to be as fussy on seating as the 7mm bullets did . do a seating test by using the same powder charge and making bullets with jumps at .010 , .040 , .080 , .120 to see what shoots best for you . I usually do the seating test first at mininum powder charge . then I work the powder charge .
here is a link to berger talking about this.

Being cap-and-core bullets, Bergers seem to give the best accuracy when loaded close to the lands. Then thousandths to twenty thousandths appears to be a common point to avoid sticking in the lands and yet giving good accuracy.

I haven't taken any animals with them. Dewey or one of the other fellas here sent them to me to try and accuracy was pretty good, but I didn't have a bunch to work with. I'd like to run a couple in the jugs to just get an idea of how they work..

I REALLY wanna try that 160 Woodleigh out of my 264 though. I think that would be pretty wicked as well.

Remember, start low with them..

Probably just try 50 grs and .010 off the lands.
See what that Sako barrel thinks of em
