I just purchased a 257 Weatherby Mk. 5 Shot two deer with 100 gr.Barnes x bullet.Lost nice buck after he fell on impact leaving no blood.Shot second deer at 350 yds.recovering deer forty yards into thicket . I found little blood.Entrance and exit holes were small but mass damage to deer internally.Need a bullet that will put blood on the ground at impact and leave a trail.Any help appreciated.

Welcome to the forum, glad you are here.

The 257 Bee rocks! Take a look at the 110 gr AB as well as the 100 gr and 115 gr PT offerings. Put any of these bullets where it needs to be and IF you have to track, it will be short.

Buck,

Welcome to the forum. You'll meet some great people here with a wealth of knowledge.

JD338 has offered some excellent advice concerning the AB and PT as bullets that will perform quite well in your 257 Wby. Try loading some and let us know how they shoot.

Just a question. Why not the Ballistis Tip? Are we concerned about blowing up on impact? Of course my .25-3000 will just barely generate 2800+ fps at the muzzle so no worries for me. However I would think it would be a "bang flop" sort of scenario. Interested in the opinions orf the learned above. Thansk CL

The BT is designed for impact velocities below 3000 fps. Beyond 200-250 yds, it would be fine in the 257 Wby. The AB or PT is a better choice, especially if you were to get a shot up close.

Thanks guys.I love how this gun shoots and I hope to get better results with these suggestions.I am shooting factory loads in Weatherby ammo.so I guess I will try their AccuBond load.I got this rifle to increase my effective range mpbr. And it has but a deer hit at 300 to400 yds must leave some evidence of impact or u will not find deer. Thanks

I think in theory the TSX and TTSX etc are the best design ever thought of. Alas I used them and I have loaded them for many people. Well their expansion capabilities left me very disappointed.....in all fairness sometimes. Problem is I do not have the luxury of knowing when it will do this, and neither do the animals that I shoot deserve that.

Look into 110 Accubonds 100 gr 115 and 120 Partitions with 7828, RL22 RlL 25 H1000 and Retumbo.

Also this site has never been a Nosler dictatorship nor do we want it to be that way as far as recommending and discussing good products. GS Customs, Swifts, Trophy bonded , also work nicely. Also one of my favorites and one of the toughest bullets out there....the 117 Hornady boat tail Interlock (IL).

If you need load data please post here and we will be more than happy to help.

Welcome to the friendliest forum on the net!

POP - have you ever used the 117gr SST from Hornady? It's supposed to be the same Interlock construction, but I suspect it is faster opening due to the polymer tip. Having never used an SST in the field, I'm curious.

POP has some good advice on the 7828 load for the .257 Bee.
I see just slightly under one inch groups at a hundred with the 110gr A-bond out of mine... phenominal velocity with them as well.

Buck,

All of the above information is true based upon my own personal obsersations. I have three rifles chambered .257 WM. The heavy barrel 26" Ruger shoots 85 grain Nosler Ballistic Sivertips at just over 3800 FPS. and will shoot three shot one hole groups at 100 yards.

My son's Mark V shots under one inch groups with the 110 AccuBond using IMR 7828 SSC at 3400 FPS. My new Vanguard will shoot 110 Accubonds right at an inch at 3500 FPS.

I am holding off doing much with the Vanguard waiting for the 100 grain Nosler E-Tip. Should get 3450-3500 pretty easy. It is coming sometime in 2010. Hell, I work there and can't find out when they will be run.

As Pop stated this forum has never been and never will be a Nosler Dictatorsip. That policy comes from the top. I have expressed dismay with many post in the past. The attitude is that we will not discourage the exchange of knowledge and information that is to the benefit of the shooting community.

So please feel welcome here. The cynergy developed by some of the post is amazing. Sit back enjoy, learn and jump in anytime.

By the way the powder for the 85 grainers is RL19, and loads of it.

The AccuBond is a marvelous bullet and you will not be disappointed. Over the last two months wee have had several shooters/ hunters bring in recovered E-Tip's and trust me this bullet will become legendary.

The E-Tip if enough hunters can get it to shoot accurately group to group and not just one group every now and then, I would have to agree it will become legendary. Here is a post found on Midway that reflects exactly my same frustration with the E-Tip in my 30-06, 300Wby.

I was not able to get suitable accuracy out of this bullet in my custom (Lilja) barreled Remington 700. The best I could get was about 2.25 MOA. Since the gun shoots half MOA with AccuBond's already, with the difficulty getting powder and primers, I'm not going to pursue the e-tip further.

Now I am going to try it once more in my 338Win Mag using the 200gr E-Tip. I spend a lot of time developing a load using lots of powder, brass and primers but that is getting thin now days. So I hope the 200gr E-Tip will shoot because it would be a perfect answer to the use of my 338Win Mag, but the jury is still out on the E-Tip with some of us.

PS - It will have to be real accurate to out shoot the 210gr Partition I have developed a load for, that will be the standard by which I judge the E-Tips accuracy level and acceptability for use in my 338Win Mag assuming also I can get the velocities I need to justify the down range ability of the high Coefficient of the E-Tip.

I just shoot the Partition 210 grain bullets. They have been around ever since I started loading for my first .338 Win Mag (1969). I shoot them in my .340 Bee and in the .338 Federal as a back up.

My buddy did from his Sako 75 at 3100 fps plus. He shot an antelops buck at about 100 yards. Went right through and into the galvanized water buffalo that cows drink from. (I do not know the official name of the tank). Very impressive.

SST is a killer. It and the interlock are one under rated bullet. I like the Balistic tip, AccuBond, SST (interlock), Interlock SP and Seirra Game king. All these bullets have just been devastating killers over the years in the field for me.
