help

If it shot great free floated before, there is no reason it shouldn't shoot well now. The rifle didn't suddenly change its preference.

All of my Vanguards are free floated and shoot very, very well. I would not personally leave one with the pressure pads in place.

I'm with JD338 on the copper fouling, the factory 25-06 barrel on my Remington 700 was a HOURENDOUS copper catcher, and what I found worked the best for removing it was foaming bore copper remover, I use the "Gun Slick " foaming bore cleaner and Ive heard but never tried the "Wipeout" brand is also very good, best of all it doesn't stink up the place and it's very safe on the barrels, if it has a down side it's the dwell time., the old barrel 24hrs per application ( And it took 3 or 4 applications), one other thing that I found was hurting it was "Stock" crush with the action screws (this gun was made in 1971) so the stock was getting a bit soft, I don't know how the WBYs bolt up but after pillar bedding my Remington action, things settled down greatly... Just food for thought ...

i just cleaned the copper fouling out the last few days. i was using the wipeout brand and it seemed to work good. i let it sit for 60 minutes before running a brush down. and i did that twice before it was time for bed. i let the barrel soak over night and first thing in the morning i ran a patch through it and let it soak all day again. when i got home i cleaned it two more times, letting it sit for and hour each time. it looks and seems clean. im going to shoot today after work and see if that helps, if that doesnt do anything ill change scopes to see if thats the problem. then ill try Fotis' suggestion and see if it wants pressure. if i still cant get it to work, im sending it to be rebarrelled and trued up.

bulls-bag great rest, lots of reviews/users on here (where I found out about them) really helped with some of my accuracy issues

shooting update. after a lot of tests and shooting i have come to the conclusion that its my scope. only in my windage adjustment. somehow its throwing shots left and never right. i put a different scope on yesterday and shot two groups of five and both were under an inch at 100 yards. im not sure how this works but thats the only thing i found out of all my tests that it can be. i sent the scope back this morning to leupold so we will see what they come up with. thanks for all the suggestions and thoughts!

Interesting. I've had three Leupolds turn toes up on me. Last time I got lucky. Aimed at the elk's chest and broke her neck at the base of the skull. I'd shot the rifle at the range the day before the hunt and it was spot on. Tested the scope out when I go back home and it was allover the place. As usual, Leupold fixed it and sent it back. On this one they had to replace the entire windage and elevation parts. There's a Nikon on that .35 Whelen now. The others went sour on a .308 and a .270. Still have no idea why they qit like that.

ya i doubted it was the scope because it was at leupold last spring getting turrets put on. and it was good just after i got it back.... i never hit the scope or dropped the rifle all year..... pretty interesting.
