Well I am offically helping a guy get started with this money sucking hobbie!!! A buddy from work just stopped by with dies, brass, primers, powder, and Nosler PT bullets. He is going to use my gear to get started and see if he likes the hobbie. He is going to load for his Ruger M77 270. He has IMR 4350 with 130 and 150 gr PT bullets. I hope to teach him something. I did not have a mentor and went after is alone and had to learned the hard way. My next goal is to get him on this site.

He could not be starting with a better caliber and powder as I have been using IMR-4350 for my 270 win for over 40 years. It is very consistent and has good speed and accuracy.

Blessings,
Dan

WT,

Good show.
Keep in mind that H4831 and RL 22 are two excellent powders for the 270 Win., just in case you need a back up plan.

Yep...I use H4350 for my wifes 270 (130 BT's)...for 2 reasons. (1) a little less powder means a little less recoil, (2) and its the same powder I use in my 30-06.

It might not get max speed in the 270, but it is accurate...and fast enough (2,900 fps in a 22" barrel)

Yup, H4831 is the "classic" powder for the 270 Win.

His grandpa reloaded and used H4831 and had good results. He could not find it at the local store. He said he would like to try a pound of it though.

And so it begins...another poor fellow infected with the virus of having to try just one more combination to see if it's better than what I'm doing now...

Good work on mentoring another hunter/shooter into the hobby. He's lucky to have a friend who will do that. Can't wait to meet him on the forum.
