Wife, Storm strikes again with her Howa 1500 bolt rifle in 7mm-8, using Nosler 120gr. Ballistic Tips!
We went wild pig hunting in western Volusia County, here in FL. We climbed into our separate stands at 3:30 P.M. I made certain that Storm was situated before walking to my stand. 20 minutes after she got up there, I heard her fire. One shot, then silence. Then spaced at roughly half hour intervals, I heard five shots in all.
Shortly before I would not be able to see, a decent black boar walked out of the tree line at about 50 yards and I took him in the shoulder, through and through. He dropped in his tracks.
I was able to get the truck back in there and load my pig, then go to where Storm was. She had five pigs laid out. We hung each pig in turn and cut them up. Having not much room in the freezer, especially for six pigs, I wrapped the pork and squeezed them into my two refrigerators to cool.
Why taking a wife hunting is expensive?? Next day I had to go out and buy a second freezer!! <8^))
Performance report on the 7mm Nosler 120gr. Ballistic Tip : All six pigs were killed by through and through hits. Three dropped in place, while three made it distances no more than 20 yards, or less. Storm's cartridges were loaded to just over 3000fps, while my 280Rem. with the same bullet was loaded to 3150fps. The 120gr. BT has now proven itself to us by taking white tail, muley, pronghorn and wild pigs. The pigs were taken at ranges less than 60 yards. The deer and pronghorn were taken out to 240 yards. Exit wounds were larger than expected. The results have been better than I would have thought.
Photos will follow.
