Wife, Storm strikes again with her Howa 1500 bolt rifle in 7mm-8, using Nosler 120gr. Ballistic Tips!
We went wild pig hunting in western Volusia County, here in FL. We climbed into our separate stands at 3:30 P.M. I made certain that Storm was situated before walking to my stand. 20 minutes after she got up there, I heard her fire. One shot, then silence. Then spaced at roughly half hour intervals, I heard five shots in all.
Shortly before I would not be able to see, a decent black boar walked out of the tree line at about 50 yards and I took him in the shoulder, through and through. He dropped in his tracks.
I was able to get the truck back in there and load my pig, then go to where Storm was. She had five pigs laid out. We hung each pig in turn and cut them up. Having not much room in the freezer, especially for six pigs, I wrapped the pork and squeezed them into my two refrigerators to cool.
Why taking a wife hunting is expensive?? Next day I had to go out and buy a second freezer!! <8^))
Performance report on the 7mm Nosler 120gr. Ballistic Tip : All six pigs were killed by through and through hits. Three dropped in place, while three made it distances no more than 20 yards, or less. Storm's cartridges were loaded to just over 3000fps, while my 280Rem. with the same bullet was loaded to 3150fps. The 120gr. BT has now proven itself to us by taking white tail, muley, pronghorn and wild pigs. The pigs were taken at ranges less than 60 yards. The deer and pronghorn were taken out to 240 yards. Exit wounds were larger than expected. The results have been better than I would have thought.
Photos will follow.

Congrats. I have had the same results with the 120 BT's. Can not wait for the pictures.

Sounds as if Storm is deadly with that Howa! Congratulations to you both. Very good report. I will be interested in the pictures.

Great post hunt report.... +1

I shoot 150 BT's in my 7mm-08..... pushing about 2750 FPS....

They have not failed me yet.....

Here is one 120 BT went through buck shoulders and found on the far side. Impact speed was 3000 fps+ from my 7mm-08

Pretty good performance, Fotis. You're about to convince me to switch from the 140 BST and 140 PT to try the 120 BT this coming Fall.

The reason that I wanted to use the 120gr. BT over the other Noslers that I had been loading, is so I could get "one size fits all". The 120gr BT has cleanly killed what Storm and I are hunting, so I will stick with that.
So far I have not been able to get the photos into my 'puter from Storm's phone! I do it with my Canon camera all the time, but I stupidly forgot the camera and all we had with us was the phone. The photos look okay on the phone. Now I gotta figure out how to get them into my 'puter!! Hi-tech not easy for old guys.

Steven,

Congratulations to the both of you. Storm is stacking them up.

The 7mm 120 gr BT is a very robust bullet as you have seen first hand.

The 120 is a micrograph of the 140 in all respects. Either will work in the aforementioned game.

OUTSTANDING! Please pass on my hearty congratulations to your better half.

Wow - she did great, as has that little 120 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip. Funny how the B-Tip still gets branded as a "fragile bullet" by many who don't use them. It's a great game-taking bullet, as you two are proving every time you go afield.

Another freezer eh? That's pretty funny!

Congrats, Guy

Congrats on the pigs! The 140 gr BT is my goto bullet in my 280 Rem, I may have too give the 120 gr a shot and see what they do.

Fotis - while looking at the photos of the recovered 120 gr Ballistic Tip, I was reminded of the appearance of the 165 gr .30 cal Ballistic Tip bullet I shot into the water jugs. Similar expansion I'd say:

Congrats!...sounds like a great bullet..I've shot the 150gr BT's outta my .270WSM, and they are very accurate for sure, this is my load for thin skinned game 8) ..For large heavy game, I use either the 150gr nosler Partition, or norma oryx...I never would have thought that the nosler ballistic tip would perform as it has for many elk/moose hunters as well :) ..It's gotta be good for sure, Lou

They have beefed them up from the original version for sure. They work great for me.

Great job! I love hearing about pig hunts, for here in Oregon, we aren't really cursed with an established population one can confidently pursue.

She unleashed the Storm, no doubt! Between the 120gr NBT and 120gr TTSX, one could quite possibly possess the ideal all-around set-up for the recoil sensitive in the 7-08. I'm quite impressed with the performance of that 120 NBT.

Steven,

I am sold on the 7mm08. Mine is due here in early February, and I am already planning one for my significant other in the same caliber (Howa barreled action in a cut down Boyds stock).

Guy if someone is getting expansion and weight retention like that at 2750 fps why use a "premium" ...say from a 308 Winnie?
