I'm under the weather right now...... recovering from minor surgery adn wife will not allow me in the woods until the Doc gives the all clear....

BUT...... once able....back in I go looking for the critters......

Will keep you all posted and if I can locate a large pack of them..... I'll invite anyone wanting to join up.... to do so......

And all it will cost you is time..... travel..... lodging (motel of your choice) and license. No charge for guiding and such....... we need them gone too.

It would not be a canned hunt as you see folks being charged for...... tis why they call it hunting.

I am in!

There are three or four areas in S Ohio with hog issues. Some were domestics that got loose and a fairly large game farm with some "wild" strain had quite a few get free as a result of a big storm that downed a tree that took out their high fence.
The DNR site lists public areas where you can access to hunt em.
My brother and I plan a scout run to see over the holidays.

Here's an Ohio link for those that would like it. Interesting actually.

Have Gun Will Travel !
Get to feeling better and I just may take you up on that !

Fotis,
They are a huge problem here. They are even in peoples back yards. You have to kill nine out of every ten to control them. That aint happenin. They can have their first litter at 6 months. Too bad I can't email you some. Maybe if Nosler gets a Pig-a-vision app.

Now, that would be fascinating. With my luck, it would only work on iPhones and not on my android.

Russ, we saw several while on vacation in Maui last year - up in the high country on the mountain. Looked like it would be fun hunting. Steep country, some of it wide open, some real thick with vegetation. I guess they've been running wild on the islands for a long time and have caused a lot of problems with the native plant & animal life.

Almost 30 years ago, when I was much leaner & tougher. Hog hunt. Interestingly, a 180 gr Nosler Partition from a .300 Win mag, through the heart. That worked pretty well.

Just realized, I still have that hat!

The Hogs have made into Saskatchewan when they escape from the Boar farms in south western Manitoba. It a few years back when all the rivers overflowed.
I know near where we hunt up north a wild boar farm had half of his herd escape. There was around 50 out now they are showing up more and more. The guys with cattle state that the hogs can ruin a entire hay stack when they start rooting and dening up for the winter.

Blessings,
Dan

Guy,
That pretty much sums it up. They are destroying the plants and habitat that are only found here. Kill them all is my say'in.

My buddy and I are going out pig hunting this weekend on Fort Hunter-Liggett. I've never been up there but I hope we get to take some out. California charges $20 a tag. Yep you have to have a tag, and it has to get inspected before you leave FHL. The cost is a little ridiculous and it really seems like just another money making racket instead of invasive and destructive species control.

CMBT, I have wanted to hunt there for a while. Good luck with your hunt and be sure to take a camera to take some pics of the Tule elk. Would like to hear how you did.

I was working down in OK, when this guy, Jerry, asked me to help him trap hogs. I joined him to set this trap in the bottom of this creek.
It was made out of hog wire and steel posts. About 50' square. The door was something he had fabricated to trip when it was set. It was short enough that deer wouldn't try it. Kind of a little tunnel.
He put a deer feeder and several motion cameras inside. He tied the door open, and filled the feeder. After several days of filling the feeder and checking the pictures, he called me and said he "Armed the trap."
The next day I shot 19 hogs and bleed them. We loaded them all on this flatbed and took them to a butcher. Then they went to the food bank. We refilled the feeder and tied the door open. Total I shot 34 hogs in that location.
Then Jerry tore down the trap and reset it about 2 miles away. Same deal, but I wasn't involved, this time.

Jerry told me he took over 100 hogs off of this guys land, this time around.
He told me you got to get the sow more then the bores. He brags about whole county's that are hog free because of this trapping theory.

When I was in San Diego I was trying to find someplace to hunt hog... For something so distructive, it sure seemed like nobody wanted them to be hunted. I couldn't get anybody to talk about it.

Fotis -
Yes I've heard the hogs have made it into SE Colorado. Have looked into it several times, however keep running into there are small numbers located on private property. Appears the land owners have seized the opportunity and charging a healthy price from my understanding.

The hunt was unsuccessful but it was a lot of fun. The area that I hunted was destroyed by rooting and wallowing. It was muddy like you wouldn't believe too! I've never gotten stuck in my truck but because of the damage to the ground the wheels were buried almost to the axle. At another point we just slid sideways down a hill.

Didn't see a single pig. I could hear them oinking around in the bushes. I did see about six deer, over a dozen elk, and an eagle which was really sweet! I'll have to remember my camera for next time.

Kurt, the deal in California is finding a private hunting club and joining for about $1500 per year. The you will have access to many of the ranches in Central CA. where the hogs are. Unfortunately, this is a money driving hunt and is not available with access to these ranches without paying for it. I could not afford to do it now either.
