Woke up at 2:22 this morning to do some more work on the message for the day. It was 8 C (46 F). I just glanced out the window ... and it is Snowing! It is 2 C (36 F) and SNOWING! I will likely have to console my wife over the course of the coming several weeks, but this should be good for hunting! I went out with John (my son-in-law) yesterday morning. We kept cutting tracks--lots of tracks (moose, elk, bear), many of which were relatively fresh. However, the animals are clearly nocturnal. We even managed to get the Tundra stuck--really stuck. I just installed a lift kit and new skid plate (yeah, tore a skid plate off earlier in August). I forgot that I had also switched over to winter tires, which have less tread than my summer tires. John cautioned against going down one particular trail. Like a good ol' boy, I cheerily said, "No problem, John." That was just before I sunk the truck to the hubs in the bog. It could have been worse, I suppose. Hey, we did get out! But now it is snowing. I am pretty certain we'll go back out this evening to see what is shaking in the hills. Did I mention that this portends good things? Now, to break out into my "Happy Dance!"

Good luck with the hunting and maybe the weather will cause the animals to be less nocturnal.

That's great news Doc. Hope that snow gets the animals moving buddy.

Sounds like your making that Toyota earns its keep as well. Do you have a winch for the truck?

It should get them moving, Rodger. It does make tracking easier! No winch on the truck, Scotty. I should have one, the places it is asked to go.

Doc, and 8000-lb winch will save you a lot of future "golly gee whizz'es and dang its" in the future. I've thanked the good lord on the couple of occasions that I really needed it.

You are correct, and I am fully conscious of the need. I'll likely have a good winch in the future, but for the moment, I make certain to have big guys hunting with me. (My goodness, Dan and Gerry don't realise why they accompanied me.)

DrMike, where did you get that Tonka Toy stuck? I am sure glad you had John with you as he is a large lad and would have been way more help than I would have been.
Sure hope that the snow get those critters moving as it is the same here in Saskatchewan just seeing nothing during shoot light :x.

Blessings,
Dan

Ha! The snow is already gone and the temps were up to about 13 C today. I spent the day hunting in the Rockies, (but that is another story). We were stuck out on Salt Ridge Road. I actually tore off my skid plate when we mounted that rock, Dan. I don't think I ripped another when I sunk it to the axels. Haven't had time to crawl under and look.

Well DrMike, I wish you & the crew the best of luck (y) that included that big lefty Gil!!
Please keep us up to-date on your adventures!!
Thank you my friend.

Blessings,
Dan
