While running short on Sweets 7.62 to remove copper fouling I came across the Hopes Number 9 Bench Rest Copper and fouling remover.. I was amazed at how effective it was in cleaning the barrel of my Montana 30-06.. It produced a blue and black patch with ease indicating copper fouling was present..

The instructions on the bottle indicate that a barrel can be left soaking overnight if need be.

Has anyone else used Hoppes Number 9 Bench Rest and found it to be better than Sweets?
Thanks in advance for replies. Rol

Up until a couple of weeks ago...that was all I used, for probably 30 years....yes, it is good stuff...safe to leave in the bore overnight, which is how I did it most of the time.

Put a wet patch through it, let it sit overnight, put a dry patch through it the next morning...repeat as needed.

I got a can of Butches Bore Shine and Montana Extreme Copper Killer because that is what Nosler recommends for their rifles...those work, but the fumes are intolerable...I'll probably go back to good ole Hoppes when those run out.

I have used it, and still do for an initial pass when cleaning. It is less aggressive that Sweets. However, on a smooth barrel, it will work quite well. On a rough barrel, I have found the Sweets to be more effective.
